That headline is not true. Dan Cathy of Chick Fil A has not (to my knowledge) taken the Mark of the Beast. Yet he has done something that suggests he might be willing to take it if faced with that choice, in the same way that answering a poll is an indication of how a person will vote in an election. As the Bible says in Luke 16:10, He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.
Dan Cathy was given a great opportunity by God to show faithfulness to His truth by standing for authentic marriage. He became a great hero to Bible-believing Christians by refusing to back down when the homo-fascists demanded he retract pro-family statements in 2012. The mayors of Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia even pledged to deny Chick Fil A business permits in their cities (coincidentally the very penalty listed in Rev 13:17: they could not buy or sell without the mark), but the overwhelming nationwide wave of support that Chick Fil A received was one of the most encouraging events of the past decade.
This week, Dan Cathy took it all back by saying His stand for God was a business mistake. (After all, one cannot serve both God and Mammon: Matthew 6:24)
Nobody knows better than I do the price that one pays for standing up to the LGBT bullies. They are not only vindictive and relentless, they are also very creative in their methods of harassment. And there is an entire army of them ready to pounce on anyone who crosses them. I am absolutely certain that they tried their best to make Dan Cathys life a constant, living hell since 2012.
Just think of the nastiness of high-profile elections in the final weeks of a campaign when the mud-slinging is the fiercest and the dirty tricks are the most cruel and invasive. Now multiply that by ten, take away the throngs of energized supporters rallying behind the candidate being attacked (so he has to face it alone), and stretch it out over months or even years. Throw in a few honey-tongued hostage negotiators pretending friendliness and concern (in this case Shane Windmeyer of Campus Pride), promising that all the pain will go away if you just compromise the truth. If you can imagine that you can get a glimpse of what its like to be targeted by the gays. The greater your threat to their agenda, the worse it gets.
Its really hard to stand up to that kind of pressure, and I have sympathy for Mr. Cathy, but its nowhere close to the amount of pressure that Christians will face in the days of persecution that lie ahead of us. Persecution like many of our brothers and sisters in Moslem countries, for example, are already facing.
True, defending the plain truth that God limits sexuality to the confines of authentic marriage, and specially condemns homosexuality from Genesis to Revelation, is not the same as defending the deity of Christ and your allegiance to Him. Ones salvation does not hinge upon the perfection of ones doctrine. But it is still very important to God.
I am convinced that God is using the homosexual issue as a test of believers all over the world. Its like the stress test the central bankers are using to forecast which banks would fail in the event of an economic collapse. Except in this case God is testing us for what we will do in the coming moral and spiritual collapse. The Bible hasnt changed, only the culture has changed, and believers are being stress tested to see whether they stand with Him or with the world on the things He says are true but which the world is pressing very hard to declare false.
Gods rebuke to Jeremiah when he complained about the power of the wicked should be ringing in our ears about now: If you have run with footmen and they have tired you out, Then how can you compete with horses? If you fall down in a land of peace, How will you do in the thicket of the Jordan? (Jeremiah 12:1-5)
The good thing about a stress test is that it gives people an opportunity to change their ways (repent) before the final exam or the big crash. God doesnt care about Chick Fil As profit margins if they come at the expense of Dan Cathys willingness to stand up for the truth under pressure. What would it profit Mr. Cathy to gain the whole world (or a few more restaurants on college campuses), if his compromise of Biblical truth today makes him less able to resist the real Mark of the Beast tomorrow?
Im not saying that Dan Cathy isnt saved, but he has certainly failed the stress test, and failed the Bible-believing Christian remnant everywhere, by surrendering to the gay bullies. How long before we see Chick Fil A running gay-friendly commercials as penance for Cathys homophobia?
Where is courage in Christendom? Where is the loyalty to Christ that once placed love for Hid Word above every other thing, including life itself? Why have we become so afraid of the opinions of men who hate God and His truth?
There are varying theological views about what the Mark of the Beast is, or will be, and which ones among us will face that choice of taking or rejecting it. Nevertheless, it stands as a symbol to all Christians everywhere as the choice for or against Christ when the sword is on your neck and to choose Christ means to die saved, or live condemned to hell. The stress test of pressure from gay bullies is not life or death, but it is an indicator of whether you have the faith and courage to choose Him over the things of this world. In my minds eye I used to see the Mark of the Beast as a black dot on the back of the hand. Now it looks more like a Chick Fil A sandwich. Ill never buy another one, and I hope you wont either.
I’ll take something from anyone who names his “ministry” after himself with a grain of salt.
That said, sorry to hear the owner of chik-fil-a is only human.
If I were to take the mark of the beast it will be a bullet hole.
Here is a related article written by a former Pastor.
This week, Dan Cathy took it all back by saying His stand for God was a business mistake. (After all, one cannot serve both God and Mammon: Matthew 6:24)
I read this as a "Dan Cathy, private citizen" vs "Dan the Chick-Fil-A CEO" issue. From The Gospel Herald interview:
"The bottom line is we have a responsibility here to keep the whole of the organization in mind, and it has to take precedence over the personal expression and opinion on social issues," Cathy said.He called his statements and then what occurred afterwards a learning experience. Although he now sees error in some of the choices he made, he hopes to learn from them. He said that didn't meant the Christian beliefs his father Truett Cathy built the business on were changing.
"You learn from those mistakes." he said. "If not, you're just a fool. I'm thankful that I lived through it and I learned a lot from it."
“Only human” will take the mark of the Beast.
what a lame excuse.
Is there a link anywhere to see exactly what Cathy said and the context he said it in?
“I am convinced that God is using the homosexual issue as a test of believers all over the world. Its like the stress test the central bankers are using to forecast which banks would fail in the event of an economic collapse. Except in this case God is testing us for what we will do in the coming moral and spiritual collapse.”
I’m convinced this Scott guy doesn’t have standing to question Dan Cathy’s faith, business practices or anything else. Satan is active on many fronts.
This whole brouhaha was over comments he made as a private citizen. Anyway, how in the world can you completely separate the fact that private citizen is the CEO of a high-profile company? Take a pseudonym to go incognito? Post to blogs under an anonymous screen name? How?
Be assured that this simply means that Cathy won't be commenting about his beliefs "as a CEO of Chick-fil-A" OR "as a private citizen."
We’re all sinners. Not one of us is perfect except for Jesus Christ.
Jesus died for that excuse.
you get prosecuted by the full force of the federal government and I grant you my conservative imprimatur to lie to the government to get past this administration.
the darkness is the blind who see things in black and white and hold peoples businesses hostage by support or boycott but do not take one cent out of their pocket in helping those (like Chik-fil-A) who are trying to fight the good fight.
This week, Dan Cathy took it all back by saying His stand for God was a business mistake.
He could have said that to the person who only cares about his business, it would have been perceived as a business mistake.
I need the quote and context before I’ll even entertain the idea of passing judgement on this guy.
Exactly. The original Cathy comment that caused the kerfuffle was made in an Baptist magazine so obscure that I, a Baptist, had not heard of it. It was blown way out of proportion by people with an agenda, which could very well be what this is.
It sucks to be rich. Christ said it would be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of GOD. Thank GOD I am not one of the rich. Pray for him, we have all fallen short.
What is more concerning to me is this blog pimp attacking a believer based solely on the article itself and condemning them without the guts to ask Cathy face to face. No where have I read that Cathy has changed any of his beliefs or positions on the issue but only that he has learned from the process and would do some things differently for the sake of his company. Again, so what?
Why are we so quick to throw our brothers and sisters under the bus? In this case, I think it is purely for self edification and “Scott Lively Ministries” is less of a ministry and more of a gossip column than the bearer of truth and the Good News.
“Suggests”
“might be willing”
Pretty weasly writing. I don’t have broadcast television nor do I subscribe to a newspaper so I did not see or read any direct quote that are in this blog article. Is there any other quote that says he rejects the Biblical teachings and has embraced the homosexual agenda? All I see is a truthful statement that applies to our day and age:
“His stand for God was a business mistake.”
Next the writing makes leaps into suggesting that next this man will have pro gay commercials to boost business. Is this true or just the writers closeted wish? I read a bit about Scott Lively’s life and it is quite a story. That being said I always take self proclaimed preachers with a grain of salt. They tend to latch onto a controversial topic and ride it for all the fame and money they can bilk out of it.
But maybe I’m wrong and the Chic Fillet guy has had a complete change of heart and is full tilt pro gay now. I just don’t find anything that even “suggests” that in this screed.
Is Chic Fillet on the stock market? Is this man CEO or owner?
Satan comes at you from every direction. I hope when my trial of temptation comes I can be strong.
As a private corporation Dan and the organization have a hell of a lot more leway to espouse their beliefs over a company beholden to shareholders. They could face a discriminatory lending environment from it, but if they are well run and remain debt free they could toe the line and leave the hell bound to their self defeating ways.
Thank you.
Until I hear otherwise I say it's just someone trying to promote himself by stirring up a hsit-storm that hurts someone else.
A really Christian thing to do, isn't it? /s
(I don't eat at chickfila, if it matters.)
Same sex marriage is ultimately a political issue. The problem will come when the state forces it on the church. And they will.
