School Bans Leggings and Yoga Pants – Too Distracting For Boys

Let’s talk about leggings, shall we? They’re a controversial topic all across America.

Now the debate’s landed in Evanston, Illinois, at Haven Middle School.

I think I’ve heard most arguments about leggings: They’re too distracting to the boys. Inappropriate. Unbecoming. They create a lustful atmosphere infecting society and are, in some countries, considered illegal.

And while I particularly love this Utah mom’s approach to lighten the mood, I doubt this writer smiled as she wrote about the controversy.

Earlier this week, I learned that Haven Middle School students are planning a protest against a ban on leggings. A Haven parent forwarded this email, sent to Haven Middle School principal Kathy Roberson on Tuesday, March 11th:

Personally, I think this ban is ridiculous. It’s obnoxious. It’s insulting. It’s lazy and it’s offensive.

I have a middle school daughter. She and her friends wear leggings. And yoga pants. And clothes that don’t always please me. Am I a bad mother for letting my daughter out of the house wearing a shirt that doesn’t cover her bottom? Possibly. Does it confound me when young men walk around wearing pants around their knees or when a therapist wears a purple streak in her hair or when a teacher wears a diamond stud in her nose? It does, but only because those aren’t my styles and it’s my issue, not theirs.

What kind of confusing message are we sending to girls – especially young girls who see public figures (including the First Lady) wearing leggings and yoga pants and whose parents are usually the ones purchasing the clothes and whose male counterparts aren’t told how to dress their bodies but only what not to wear on them? Give me a break.

...and deciding what to wear in the morning. [Wonder what I did with all that time I saved?]

The nuns were very strict about the length of your skirt ....if there was a *question*....they made you kneel on the floor...and if the hem didn't touch the floor...you got sent home immediately.

My wife is a fashionista

She dresses sexy

We are on Miami Beach right now where its expected

She detests leggings as low fashion or lazy prep

In rural TN where we live....tony soccer mons wear leggings with tight sweater or cycle tankie and Vuitton duffle

Like a uniform

With sneakers...hair pulled back with no make up and gloss

Myself I like leggings and yoga pants

Best for tight butts and girls with the gap

I can’t stand africanized kardashian butts

I grew up when a tight little apple ass was the bomb

Cameron Diaz has a nice ass

I remember when seeing a hint of bra strap was thrilling. Now they wear them on the outside.

We only wear leggings under skirts or dresses.
Those skirts that mom (me) says are too short are perfect over leggings.
Problem solved, No one sees your bottom or your underclothes.

I’ll be reffing a volleyball tournament with about 100 courts and a few thousand 13-18 girls. I don’t get distracted by them. Can’t say the same about some of the moms.

There you have it...... for those of that aren’t aware of some current trends, the answer is “ no difference”.

My mind eventually developed the conclusion with no basis except pure reason, that Yogi pants were leggings worn in the gym when taking yogi lessons.

To be sure ....over the years, I have concluded that clothing manufacturers should NOT make certain styles in sizes over [say] size 10. The world would save on eye bleach that way. ;D

What you have shown here is in reality the salvation of Medicare. That is , obesity.

Obesity gone wild kills at an age before medicare kicks in.

Plentifulness and the resulting unrestrained obesity will solve the projections of running out of medicare funding.

Not to a 14 year old boy.

Hey as the mother of a soon to be 16 year old girl I am familiar with the attire of young people. If its there to look at then people will look.

Of course you enjoy it. I’m just not interested in you looking at my kids crotch in a tight pair of leggings or yoga pants.

I’m not talking about ‘kids’. I do realize your not talking about ‘children’ (I think?)

It’s the world we live in but if you raise your kids to not wear certain things I’m sure they will not be the ones looked at in that matter.

If you read my other posts in this thread I recommend uniforms like I had to wear for 8 years and dress clothes in high school.
