Fred Phelps Sr., the former head of the Westboro Baptist Church, died late Wednesday night, according to a family member.
Phelps' son, Timothy told 13 News that his father died just before midnight. Timothy Pheps works at the Shawnee Co. Jail.
Ironically, another son who is a member of the church, attorney Jonathan Phelps told us Thursday morning, "Pastor Phelps is doing just fine." That, of course, could have been a spiritual reference.
Over the weekend, we learned that Phelps was reportedly "on the edge of death."
In a statement on his Facebook page, Nathan Phelps, who has been estranged from his father for 30 years, said the senior Phelps was dying in hospice care in Topeka, Kan., and that he had been ex-communicated from his own church in August of 2013.

I’ll bet Midland Care Hospice is highly annoyed that their name came out in connection with Phelps. I hope they don’t get any fallout because of it.
Me too.
Anyone care to enlighten me as to the circumstances of his “excommunication”?
So they are a Godly group of folks who only stepped over the line when they picketed military funerals, is that it?
Where do we get to protest his funeral? Lots of loud bikers might help.
Short version that covers it.
LOLOL
I don't think anyone knows for sure. Supposedly he either got the boot for advocating a knder and gentler Westboro or he was kicked out for pounding his pud. Considering he was 84 and by all accounts completely senile I have my doubts on either version being the truth.
I’ve heard that he had begun to moderate slightly in his old age, which offended the more zealous, leading to “excommunication.”
I’ve also heard that he was caught masturbating, apparently in church, which the church equates with Onanism and homosexuality, leading to “excommunication.”
Given his age and health, I’d tend to lend credence to the first, with the second being a scurrilous tale spread by his own former zealots to further discredit the man.
But, I really don’t know. I hope he realized the error of his ways, repented and received forgiveness of his sins before he died.
I believe he was about as “Christian” as the “Reverend” Jim Jones.
Good.
i have celebrated 3 deaths.

and this POS
There are a lot of people who believe in God and who profess to being Christian, but who pervert scripture to their own sick purposes. Doesn't make them atheists, just misgiuided souls who will learn the error of their ways in His own good time.
I have read that the “playing with his ding-a-ling” story is false, made from the hijacked Twitter account of one of his daughters.
The other story is more credible. They were going to discipline a female church member for something and he advocated “taking it easy” on her. That hacked off the ‘church council’ and they gave him “the left foot of fellowship” from among them.
Phelps will be able to warm himself by the still burning Teddy Kennedy grease fire.
He’s got that foursome with Hitler, Stalin and Mao at the Hades Country Club.
PING!
Let me hold the dollar and I'll let you know when I die.
I was taught not to speak ill of the dead. But in this case I’ll make an exception: “Ill!”.
And the future for him ain’t just plastics, it’s nomex....
