Moscow signals concern for Russians in Estonia

Russia signaled concern on Wednesday at Estonia's treatment of its large ethnic Russian minority, comparing language policy in the Baltic state with what it said was a call in Ukraine to prevent the use of Russian.

Russia has defended its annexation of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula by arguing it has the right to protect Russian-speakers outside its borders, so the reference to linguistic tensions in another former Soviet republic comes at a highly sensitive moment.

I agree. The best thing that could happen is if all of the people in this area could kill Putin’s thugs either with a firearm or a knife, but any weapon would be fine. Eliminate Putin’s threats to them and evolve to a free, just, and independent country not dominated by a narcissistic dictator.

It’s OK....
Since all of this makes Obama look weak and spineless, the US Media, ESPECIALLY CNN,NBC, and MSNBC, have thrown this down the memory hole.

It’s like it isn’t happening, AT ALL. CNN, run by the guy that wrote Obama’s Styrofoam columns speech now, is running all MH370 Conspiracy theories, and oh yeah, something is happening in Crimea, so we’ll give it 60 seconds, three times today.

(OH, BY THE WAY...
If you think what is going on in Eastern Europe right now is important, you muss be a rassiss!! Or a homophobe, or sumpin’....)

Putin will move into a place like Narva. The locals are ethnic Russian and won’t fight. His troops will take their insignia off and hide behind girls like they did in Crimea.

The problem I see is that it’s not clear if the Baltic governments will fight the Russians. You hear a lot of “we are a small country...” over there. Facing Russian aggressioin there is a strong probability Estonia would just invoke Article V and wait for help.

The Baltic peoples who took up arms against the Soviets the first time around were country folks. City folks for the most part were not armed partisans. Nowadays there just is not a large and able rural population in the Baltics. Also, some of the leaders of the Baltics are former commies with questionable ethics. That leads me to seriously doubt they will fight the Russian bear if it reappears.

I’m sure you’re right. I see it even among these so-called conservatives here. They’re fine with Putin as long as he feigns some claptrap about being Christian or an anti gay type of shibboleth. It’s enough to make you wonder if they’re just stupid, craven, or too partisan to see that there can be more than one enemy of freedom.

I have to admit I ADMIRE Putin. Say what you want but he is leading Russia to the benefit of Russia - imagine if we had a leader like that.

Ukraine should have never agreed to give up the nukes it had. The major powers will not invade you if you have nukes. Just look at Pakistan and Iran. Both countries would have been given the Iraq treatment were it not for nukes (or the probability of nukes in the case of Iran). There is a danger in the frequent use of force, Other countries not being invaded conclude that the only way to avoid that fate is to develop nukes. This in no way makes me a pacifist. It makes me a realist. If we use force, we had better make sure it is absolutely necessary and vital to our national interests. If we use force, it should be overwhelming and result in decisive results. This garbage notion of playing world’s policeman and never defeating our enemies just encourages contempt in the hearts of our enemies and makes us vulnerable to counter-attack.

There is nothing admirable about sending a fifth column pansy army to attack your neighbor. That’s tin pot african dictator stuff.

The one thing Russia may not have counted on is the Poles. I cannot imagine Poles standing idly by while they see their brethren in the Baltics being threatened. While for the most part they are taking a wait and see attitude toward Crimea, if it starts hitting close to home, it may be difficult for NATO to hold them back.

I think it was those homoerotic shirtless photos of Putin on a horse that sent our resident Rusophiles over the edge.

Russia is flexing its muscles.

More than flexing. They are outright humiliating America on the world stage. Putin gestured toward Estonia during the US Vice President's visit to neighboring Lithuania. Putin could not possibly be more disrespectful.
