A feud has erupted among distillers over a seemingly simple question: When is a whiskey "Tennessee Whiskey''?
On the one side is Brown-Forman Corp., maker of the top-selling American whiskey, Jack Daniel's.
At the company's urging, Tennessee passed legislation last year requiring anything labeled "Tennessee Whiskey'' not just to be made in the state, but also to be made from at least 51% corn, filtered through maple charcoal and aged in new, charred oak barrels.
As it happens, that is the recipe for Jack Daniel's, which traces its Tennessee roots back more than a century and today sells more than 90% of the state's whiskey.
On the other side of this feud is U.K.-based Diageo PLC, the world's largest liquor company and owner of George Dickel, the distant No. 2 Tennessee Whiskey. It is lobbying Tennessee lawmakers to relax the rules so area distillers don't have to copy Jack Daniel's.

Kentucky for my money....
Absolutely agree. Though, strangely enough, I have grown partial to a Bushmills double Irish coffee after completing a half marathon. Call it a tradition... (though I admit, I'll always ALWAYS remember that when in the South, do note to the bartender that no sickly green mint syrup is required. Learned the hard way...once.)
“A five dollar bottle of cinnamon whiskey from Walmart will make you puke just as hard as JD.”
The idea is not to get puking drunk.
“When I have partaken spirits, I have always preferred a chilled glass of Jack Daniels.”
Chilled? You blasphemer!
Jack Daniels is total swill compared to Blanton's
Gentleman Jack is top notch.
Though, I prefer Irish even though I’m half Scot. The other half is Polish that craves Zubrowka vodka over any other spirit.
Irish coffee is value for money. It has all four food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar and fat.

It's not so much the corn as the oak. Like being clubbed over the head with a stout oaken bludgeon.
Took the tour of JD factory nice place but you cant drink it as its in a dry county lol.
Just give me Jack Daniels for me and my spaniels, we’ll lick it up off of the floor! ! ! !
The only whiskey worth drinking is Makers Mark.
too much tannin for me too
Im fond of Bushmills myself - waay smoother
Don’t care for the whiskey, more of a scotch drinker myself.
I do however like JD’s sauces, and in particular, their marinade.
I’m with you.
And that's all I have to say 'bout that!
Who in their right mind wastes perfectly good Irish whiskey
by dumping it in coffee. JMO
When I drank hard liquor 30+ years ago, my fav was Rebel Yell. Unfortunately the original makers sold out and the new stuff I understand is horrible compared to its past.
