SAN JOSE, Calif. Rev. Jesse Jackson plans to lead a delegation to the Hewlett Packard annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday to bring attention to Silicon Valleys poor record of including blacks and Latinos in hiring, board appointments and startup funding.
Jacksons strategy borrows from the traditional civil rights era playbook of shaming companies to prod them into transformation. Now he is bringing it to the age of social media and a booming tech industry known for its disruptive innovation.

Title should have been:
Jesse Jackson to shake down Silicon Valley's lack of his version of diversity.
Silicon Valley has tons of Asians and Indians. They’re “minorities,” aren’t they?
Mr. Jackson might take a look at the lack of math skills in the minority he champions.
I wonder what Jesse Jackson Jr.’s SAT scores were? Of course, we’ll never know.
Could it be it’s because blacks don’t bother to complete their education?
Maybe Jackson is on to something... He only needs to focus.
How many top programmers, engineers, geneticists, MBAs and patent attorneys does South Side of Chicago produce? I’m thinking a few, but not many. Jesse needs to look to cleaning up his side of the street. More black kids doing more homework in harder subjects. Maybe if he tried that we actually would achieve his version of “diversity.”
Right up your alley ping!
His bank account must be getting low.
Blacks, Latinos are either being discriminated or they don’t have sufficient numbers of qualified applicants.
Wrong. He prods them into donating to his organization.
If this shakedown artist was truly concerned about diversity, he’d go after the NBA and the NFL.
Cool.
Will Incomprehensible One provide his own translator? 'Cause I don't think anyone understands a word he says.
It’s been a few years now, guess ol’ Jesse’s due for another shakedown..........
My exact thought when reading this. :)
When I was in the US Army “affirmative action” was an emerging factor, but my boss (a warrant officer) said he was happy to hire a black, but they had to be qualified by test scores and training.
He had not found one yet.
If there are blacks with great ideas out there who can't get funding (doubtful) why don't they go to rich, successful blacks and plead their case?
I worked for several high tech companies. We didn’t hire uneducated victims. The Jesse faction has done nothing but keep these people on the plantation and only marginally employable. Look in the mirror Jesse. That’s where the problem is.
I was told to make a priority of finding and, if at all possible, hiring any black candidate who applied for positions I had available.
That area of the US is very diverse.

He’s an extortionist.
Mr. Jak-Sun will find out rapidly that Asians and Indians have no regrets over discriminating against Africans and Latin Americans.
They play for keeps when it comes to their own people as anyone who’s ever tried to get hired in the more mind numbing groups at Intel, AMD, HP, etc.
And it ain’t like Oakland is all that far away. Physically at least. Mentally....light years
