It's a building of dignity and honor, but what happened at the state capitol recently has law enforcement crying shame.
"Everybody in that building knew who we were," said Wagoner county sheriff Bob Colbert, who, along with 40 other sheriffs from around the state, converged on the capitol as they do every year to meet and greet and lobby. Until...
"One of the senators, who they wouldn't tell us, complained because we were armed in the building," he said.
They were then given a choice, disarm or there's the door.
"So we all packed up and left," he said.
Colbert doesn't know for sure which senator complained, but has his own complaints about the complainer.
"We're the people that protect these people," he said.

IT REALLY SUCKS WHEN COPS ARE TREATED LIKE LOWLY REGULAR PEON CITIZENS, EH???
/no sympathy
It’s just common sense, what with the rash of officer related shootings.
They might mistake someones cane for an assault rifle, or a wallet/pocketbook/purse as a satchel charge or something.
JBT Ping list
I see a upswing in dog shootings next month because of this.
I don’t know which is worse, elected sheriffs being treated like the rest of us or that misplaced apostrophe in the title from a news station.
Oklahoma Statute Title 21 Section 1277
UNLAWFUL CARRY IN CERTAIN PLACES
http://www.ok.gov/osbi/documents/SDA_Lawbook_NOV_2013.pdf
Subsection F.
F. The provisions of this section shall not apply to any peace officer or to any person authorized by law to carry a
pistol in the course of employment. District judges, associate district judges and special district judges, who are
in possession of a valid handgun license issued pursuant to the provisions of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act
and whose names appear on a list maintained by the Administrative Director of the Courts, shall be exempt
from this section when acting in the course and scope of employment within the courthouses of this state.
Private investigators with a firearms authorization shall be exempt from this section when acting in the course
and scope of employment.
No honor among thieves,etc,etc...
It is not quite as funny when your ox is the one getting gored is it?
Hell, the Texas Capitol has a separate entrance just for us concealed carriers!
Hard to believe that the journalist wrote the title as is with an apostrophe, showing the possessive tense. LOL!
They should defect to Texas! Anyone with a concealed carry license can carry in the Capitol! There are even 2 security lines, one for those with CHL’s and another for those without a CHL.
Did the Senator said he (or she) would “give his left nut” to disarm those cops?
Reporters (or should I say “Reporter’s”?) don’t usually write the final headline that gets put on their articles. In my limited newspaper experience, typically, the reporter will suggest one but the editor writes the final headline. (It could be done differently at papers larger than the one I worked for.)
Wow, what a coward...bitch about legally armed Sheriffs and not have the guts to tell them who it is...
Even worse!
LOL!!!
How does that work? Does one just show the permit and be allowed to enter? Do you pass the gun through a metal detector?
In Texas, we’ve got a fast lane into the Capitol for CC’ers.
Offensive as it is, I doubt that anyone was buried as a consequence of misuse of the apostrophe. < smile >
I’d be willing to make a $10,000 Romney type bet that I know the ploitical party of the “complainer”.
