Are you saying that anything other than the Calhounian "compact" theory is liberal?

You could be a devotee of enlightened despotism a la Thomas Hobbes, in which case you would be "conservative" in the sense that Jefferson and Voltaire understood it. Hobbes didn't believe in compacts, but in divine-right absolutism.

You're just itching to call that guy a "slaver" and a "raciss", aren't you?

Boo, hiss on Southerners! Ick hiss nasty die die die! ;)

Don’t forge that around the time Charlton Heston was raising his musket in the air and declaring “From my cold dead hands” he was also on the radio declaring that “no one edneed a fully automatic AK-47.”

See my thread, above. It’s in the activism tab. The bad bill was killed, the good bill is closer to law.

NRA is to guns; like the chamber of commerce is to commerce. Not that helpful, huh

NRA has been known to advocate for regulated gun freedoms. For safety and for Political expediency.

I have argued with plenty of NRA types who want back ground checks and certifications to carry weapons.

That is clearly not a 2nd Amendment stance.

"You’ll never convince NRA members that they have been “had” any more than you will persuade the little Republican primary voters that they too have long been snookered by “the leadership.”"

As a member of the NRA and as a "little Republican primary voter" I would have to disagree about being "had" and "snookered". I would agree that both the NRA and the Republican party need to have the moderates voted out. Both organizations have elected officials I am proud of such as the "Teds" (Nugent/NRA and Cruz/GOP) as well.
I vote in the Republican Primaries and vote for NRA board members. It is an uphill battle on both fronts, but Im not willing to throw in the towel on either group. Both the NRA and my US/State reps hear from me as a constituent with my support or disapproval. I know it is only a drop in the bucket but I do my part, and I am sure you diligently do yours as well with your own methods.
