Georgia Republicans Ram Gun Ban Through
email from georgia gun owners ^ | 3/13/2014 | D. R. Leonard

Posted on 03/14/2014 3:43:09 AM PDT by from occupied ga

NRA endorsed Republican State Senators Jesse Stone and Hunter Hill rammed gun control through the Senate Judiciary Non-Civil Committee late yesterday.

Just like that, HB 875 became nothing more than a piece of trash.

But the news is even worse than that . . .

NRA lobbyists at the Capitol continue to play games with gun owners, saying they "have the Senate covered," yet their endorsed elected officials routinely stab gun owners in the back.

The Executive Director of another gun group at the Capitol, Georgia Carry, said this last week about the gun bill in the Senate: "Expect them to pass it with some changes and not necessarily bad changes."

Virtually every Senator causing problems is both NRA and Georgia Carry endorsed! Not to mention both the Governor and Lt. Governor are endorsed by them as well.

Are these gun groups naive, power hungry or just afraid to tell their endorsed friends how wrong they are!

We certainly aren't afraid to call out gun-grabbing Republicans when we see them!

We call Senator Stone's and Senator Hill's gun control compromise the "Little Lautenberg Gun Ban."

They added language into the bill that would ban a whole new class of people from getting a weapons license in Georgia for something as simple as spanking your child too hard or getting into verbal disagreement with your ex-spouse.

A similar bill was passed at the federal level in the late 1990s -- the Lautenberg Gun Ban.

It has disarmed hundreds of thousands since it's enactment.

But what's even worse, the new version of HB 875 also gutted "church carry" and added a brand new mental health mandate, banning those who receive "involuntary treatment" from possessing a firearm FOREVER!

Banned for something as simple as being ordered to alcohol rehab at some point in your life!

There are now two gun bills still alive -- HB 60 and HB 875. Both are sitting in the Senate waiting for action.

But at this point, with Governor Deal and Lt. Governor Cagle now in full control, gun owners should be on guard for last-second gun control compromise language.

There are just TWO days [next Tuesday and Thursday] left in this session of the General Assembly.

GGO will not be supporting any nasty compromise, and neither should you.

That's why it's vital you call the Governor, Lt. Governor and Senate President Pro Temp AT ONCE!

Tell them you will not support any compromise of your gun rights and that you expect them to stop trying to kill gun bills!

Call Governor Nathan Deal >>> 404-656-1776

Call Lt. Governor Casey Cagle >>> 404-656-5030

Call Sen. President Pro Temp David Schafer >>> 404-656-0048

Thank you for taking action.

We'll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest developments.

Best regards,

D.R. Leonard
Political Director

This is from an email alert I received last night. Neither the NRA nor Republicans are friends of gun owners.

I agree with you 101% my friend. I'm a 67 yo gun/bulletsmith and I also don't trust the NRA. I dropped them approx.15 years ago and I doubt I even want to hear NRA anymore. I had a heated conversation with one of the board members over a category 3 issue (long story) and he was about as supportive as lead filled ballast tanks on a submarine. As far as I'm concerned I really wish to see another "pro ARMAMENT" organization start. Hell,,,, I'd be a charter member.

Thank you Mr Alinsky. Have you ever lobbied for a progun organization at the GA legislature? No? I have. And I can assure you that the NRA lobbiests go around making all sorts of anti-gun "compromises" rather than holding the hard line. SO unless you know what you're talking about, which you obviously don't, I suggest you stick your Kool Aid, back in your pocket.

NRA has been appeasers for at least two decades. I used to be a member.

Repeal 1986, 1968, 1934 or revolt.

If the NRA truly had our interests at heart, they would adopt the policy they once had, and oppose EVERY piece of gun control legislation. All that is gained in compromise is defeat. It may not come today, but the gun control people are satisfied with incremental wins, because they know that lots of incremental wins will add up to a complete win for them and a complete loss of rights for us.

I would drop the NRA in a heartbeat and switch to the Gun Owners of America, but the local gun range requires NRA membership in order to use their range.

If it wasn’t for the NRA, there would presently be a new federal assault weapon ban and a ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds on the books. Guaranteed. They held the line despite immense pressure to compromise and now look where we’re at brother- CCWs everwhere and you can’t walk down the street without tripping over an AR15 and a whole new generation of shooters and reloaders and more coming every year. We are winning and when you’re winning, I think you should focus on continuing to do whatever it is that causes you to win, i.e. support the NRA. Lifetime member here and proud of it.

You are absolutely “on target”!!!! For years I’ve been saying that the NRA is the Jessie Jackson/Al Sharpton faction of the gun rights community. They have no reason to want total gun freedom. If we got rid of all gun laws they’d put themselves out of work/huge salaries and out of their big glass tower in Fairfax!

I’m a life member of NYSRPA. That’s right NY. The NRA(also a life member) and its NY state affiate have been dumping tons of cash into the safe act war still going on here. Perhaps they figure if you live in GA you should need less help. Here on Long Island EVERY republican state senator save 1 voted FOR the safe act. They are in for a surprise this election season. The real enemy is GOPe. I wrote my republican senator and got the response that this safe act is the less of 2 evils. Really? Anyway there is a statewide grass roots effort to if not end the safe act then to at least kick the bums out.

But it’s good to know that GA is slipping into the dark side. When I retire and move elsewhere it will not be there. I think we are both happy with my decision.

Ex-NRA member here.

There is still a “hunting and skeet shooting” stripe in them at times. They still support Dems who are just waiting to turn on them (Harry Reid.)

I’ll save my money.

The nra has done some good things. Ignoring their compromises and support for truly bad politicians does a lot of damage.

I've never experienced such a thing myself, but know others who have. Sort of like a "union shop," isn't it? I have a problem with such things to some degree, as well as the too-cozy CMP, etc relationships they have enjoyed for a century. Two friends of mine have gotten CMP Garands despite the fact that they do not actually take marksmanship seriously, yet other shooters I know who are dedicated but informal - thus they don't "do" NRA high-power - and the door will remain closed to them. Some taxpayers are more equal than others.

I used to belong to the NRA, but after many decades, I threw up my hands and let my membership lapse after one too many asinine - and in the proverbial "straw braking the came's back" case, indefensible - endorsements. I don't advocate that people stay away from the NRA, but they are in many ways part of the political class, with all the negatives that implies.

Do you know how much money and power the NRA would lose if that happened?

You don’t need a mealy-mouth lobby group if you have all the guns.
