Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was hundreds of miles off course, traveling in the opposite direction from its original destination and had stopped sending identifying transponder codes before it disappeared, a senior Malaysian Air Force official told CNN Tuesday.
If correct, these are ominous signs that could call into question whether someone in the cockpit might have deliberately steered the plane away from its intended destination, a former U.S. aviation investigator said.
"This kind of deviation in course is simply inexplicable," said Paul Goelz, former managing director of the National Transportation Safety Board.
(snip) The Malaysian Air Force lost track of the plane over Pulau Perak, a tiny island in the Straits of Malacca -- many hundreds of miles from the usual flight path for aircraft traveling between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing, the official said.

There are as many different Indonesia’s as you might wish. One, however is extremely radical and that is Banda Aceh where the plane was headed.
Just floating this by:
I suppose when a dormitory of students is attacked in Northern Nigeria or a Christian Church attacked in Pakistan, “they” don’t really need to announce that they are responsible.
I can’t wait for the CIA animation proving that ‘the center fuel tank exploded.’
Bingo.
A 777 can go 8000 miles.
The most likely scenario is the simplest one. The comms mast on the underside of the fuselage separated from the plane in flight. There seems to be a known weakness due to improper use of adhesives and there is supposedly an AD for this issued by the FAA. With the mast gone there is no comms and there is a small hole in the fuselage. The cabin gradually decompresses and incapacitates the crew. They attempt turn back and program the autopilot to descend, then go to sleep. The plane goes down to 3,000 feet, levels off, and flies into the Indian Ocean until the fuel is exhausted.
The passports, cell phones, hijacking, accidental shoot-downs are just conjecture. The fact is the comms mast has been found to have cracks and probably just fell off.

Could have been a repeat of the 9/11 plane that crashed in Shankesville. Could be a lot of things, really. But the most likely starting point is “it was hijacked and...”
Nope. Have not seen that.

Vanished Malaysia Airlines flight leaves relatives with anger and phantom phone calls

A migrant worker in the room said that several other workers from his company were on the plane, including his brother-in-law. Among them, the QQ accounts of three still showed that they were online, he said Sunday afternoon. (According to another story I read one of those accounts stayed online until some time Monday.)
Adding to the mystery, other relatives in the room said that when they dialed some passengers numbers, they seemed to get ringing tones on the other side even though the calls were not picked up.

In his report, the owner of a fishing boat claimed that he saw an airplane flying low while he was at sea with a friend about 14.4km from Kuala Besar in Pantai Cahaya Bulan here at 1.30am on Saturday.
Azid Ibrahim, 66, said the aircraft was heading towards international waters.
According to him, the plane was flying so low that he could see the lights as big as coconuts.

If these were cell phones with gps-capable chipsets, and the phones were being used for Internet connectivity via satellite (if a WiFi access point were provided on the flight) it might be possible for someone to get an IM or other message out. I can't think of any IM message format on the data side that would include the GPS coordinates, but, of course, certain apps send the lat and long for tracking purposes. (I have no idea if airlines actually provide a wireless lan for the passengers as I no longer fly commercially).
That’s kind of my thinking—united 93 in the Pacific. But why have they only found oil?
I thought of that one too. Since it went down over the Dakotas or some place, finding wreckage was easier.
Well, what are they waiting for? Why haven’t we heard from them? Or is it being kept secret. Besides taking hostages for ransom isn’t really Islamic terrorist MO except maybe a prisoner exchange.
There is nothing on a 777 called a comms mast. There are vhf antennas, hf antennas, tcas antenna, satcom antenna, no comms mast though. These antenna are attached with fasteners, not adhesive. If one did depart the aircraft the “hole” uncovered would not be a pressurization challenge for the two massive engines to compensate for.
There are old World War II and maybe Viet Nam landing strips around. Palmyra is one. I read a true crime story set there. I don’t know what conditions these are in today or if they’re big enough for a 777.
It could make it to Israel.
I think the black Italian soccer player was a person who had his passport stolen and they published his picture because they still didnt know who the passengers using other people’s passports were(are). Now they do.
I live in Everett and it seems like yesterday the first 777 rolled off the line. But time flies, and I guess that they are getting old now.
But there have been situations, like the Payne Stewart one in this country, where they were prepared to shoot down a civilian plane. They didnt have to in that case, or on 9-11, either, but they were contemplating it. Maybe Malaysia is different, but I’m not sure about this theory.
