House to Vote on Making Fine for Disobeying Obamacare Individual Mandate $0
TWS ^ | March 5, 2014 | JEFFREY H. ANDERSON

The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on Wednesday to reduce the fine/“tax” for violating Obamacare’s individual mandate this year to $0. It will be interesting to see how Democrats in both the House and Senate react. President Obama has plainly violated the law—and the constitutional separation of powers—by unilaterally delaying the individual mandate for some people (those who liked their health plan but got a cancellation notice) and by unilaterally delaying the employer mandate. Given these extralegal executive actions, and given the technological train wreck than the Obamacare exchange rollout has been, it would seem to be a no-brainer to pass actual legislation (as the Constitution requires for changing laws) to waive the fine (at least for the time being) for those who choose not to buy federally mandated insurance they don’t want. But the Democrats love the individual mandate and rightly recognize it as Obamacare’s coercive core, so this puts them in a bind.

Despite Obama’s stubborn insistence that Obamacare provides “universal coverage,” the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says that—even a decade from now, even after more than $2 trillion has gone out the door—the health-care overhaul would still leave a Baskin-Robbins’ like 31 million people uninsured. That’s a far cry from “universal coverage.” But one can think of it—and describe it—as “universal,” so long as one is forcing every American, as a matter of federal law, to do the government’s bidding. Without the individual mandate, however, Obamacare would cease to be “universal coverage”—even in the sense of being universally coercive—and would simply become “44 percent coverage.” That would be demoralizing to the left.

Well, at least they’re trying to do something...

Meanwhile, spineless Boehner wants to “get immigration done”...

Symbolic but ineffective in the end.

Democrats will do whatever they please and nothing will be done about it.

The End.

The EXEMPT delay the execution of the non-EXEMPT
so they can continue to be the special, the best,
the EXEMPT, and the MASTERS of America, free
of their own LAWS.

The EXEMPT simply LOVE RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE, by any name,
as long as THEY, their families, and staff are EXEMPT,
and the non-EXEMPT pick up all their fees and alcohol.

agree, there should be some “consideration”

$1 per person is about right, with no exemptions for any income bracket

Ugh. This is worse than doing nothing. By setting the fine at zero, they are implicitly acknowledging that there is nothing wrong with the very act of imposing the fine.

No it won't. The Democrats in the House are going to vote agains this, and the Democrats in the Senate are going to let the bill die.

If everyone who files Federal Taxes for calendar year 2014, merely checks the box indicating they have health insurance...

And they also state there are no teeth to this law of paying the fine, so one can chose to ignore it. The fine is more or less nullified.

Another viewpoint is: it sets up the case for an indiscriminate fine (tax)...the 1%...then 2.5%...and then 3.5% and who knows what the upper limit may be.

CONGRESS votes to change the tax tables....every year. I think the real problem is no criteria for the percentage.

That's genius. Seriously. If we wanted to break the Federal Leviathan, I'd bet it costs the IRS far more to process $1 fines from 31,000,000 people than they might actually "make."

Now there's an interesting thought. How about....all in pennies.

May be the reason why Obama wants to outlaw pennies...and nickels.

I think a $1 fine is slightly too high...

I’ve only budgeted .01¢

Yes, the fine is more or less nullified. OK. But, with the fine still nominally in the law, the precedent is still set that such fines are OK. That's a Pyrrhic victory if you ask me - the damage of Obamacare is not just Obamacare itself, but rather the Federal government's usurption of the power to enact laws like Obamacare.

Oh, the Dictator will probably use an executive order to raise it again and call on his Ton Ton Macoutes in IRS to enforce it.
