Chocolate and peanut butter is better than bacon. Word. Reeses had a great ad about that a few years back. A chocolate bar accidentally falling into a jar of peanut butter.
On the stove top, good temperature control is essential. Mine is electric and varies between high and low.

The Reese's ad was heresy.
You don't get enough peanut butter on the chocolate when you thrust a chocolate bar into a jar of peanut butter. Souce: personal experience.
When I speak of smearing peanut butter on a chocolate bar, I don't use a knife. I use a spoon.

I have found the microwave to be better than the stovetop for melting chocolate. Never more than 15 seconds per heating, thorough stirring after each heating. With care you can keep it all below 105°F, the critical temperature.
