Rogers: Putin 'Running Circles' Around The United States

Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., said Sunday the crisis in Ukraine presents another situation in which President Obama is getting out-maneuvered on the global stage by Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying, “Putin is playing chess, and I think we’re playing marbles.”
“It’s not even close,” Rogers, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, told “Fox News Sunday.”
His remarks follow Russia sending troops into Ukraine’s Crimea region, amid Ukraine’s months-long political upheaval in which residents in late February ousted their leader.
Though Rogers often calls on the Obama administration to be more aggressive on foreign policy, he outlined a measured approach that called for sanctions but cautioned against sending the U.S. Navy into the region.
“Sending [forces] into the Black Sea is not a good idea right now,” he said. “There are not a lot of [military] options on the table.”
Obama said Friday "there will be costs" should Russia take any military action in Ukraine.

This time it is not Russian media but the BBC who reports it. In the linked piece there is also a map of cities in the east of Ukraine that have hoisted the Russian flag. If that is true (needs independent confirmation) Ukraine will be partitioned long before the EU foreign ministers have had their pre-meeting coffee tomorrow.

Putin's hardline Old Soviet background, his yearning for the halcyon days of glory, confrontation ofthe empire that was once the See See See Pee, has never left his inherently hegemonistic Machiavellian machinations.
He had been playing the reformulated Soviet barbarian in every single position of power many times over, patiently laying down the foundation as "heralded" neo-civilized Russian statesman finally cashing in his chips, none of them Bit-coin, I'm sure.
One aspect of this I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere is the impact of Snowden on all of this.
The reports were that he made out with the “crown jewels”. A lot of the the stuff he had about domestic ops was released but I’d suggest he also made out with quite a bit about foreign ops and military related information as well.
Putin likely has the entire gamut of NSA sources and methods at his disposal and that could be putting Obama in a severe bind here.
It would be very easy for Putin to blackmail us over that information. “If you do anything...”
Of course he’s not going to admit it because he’ll look even weaker but I’d think that may be affecting his calculus here.

Earlier everyone on some TV show was bending over backwards to praise our military. Saying things like “They’re the greatest army in the world” and “They’re the most patriotic army in the world”. My wife added “And they’re the gayest army in the world.”
