Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Thursday didn't rule out involvement in GOP primaries this year against incumbent Republican senators.
Cruz said he had made no "ironclad promise" to stay out of the primaries.
"What I have said is that I'm likely going to stay out of incumbent Republican primaries," he said. "I haven't put that in concrete."
A fundraising email Cruz wrote for the Madison Project emerged this week. The group has backed Republican candidates running against Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and Sen. Pat Roberts (Kan.). Cruz had told other Republican senators that he wouldn't help outside groups targeting his opponents, and he said the email for the Madison Project had been written last April, before the conversation had taken place.
But Cruz, who irritated his colleagues earlier this month with a filibuster on legislation to raise the debt ceiling, said nothing is certain.
"Things can change in politics," he said.
He also criticized the National Republican Senatorial Committee for its involvement in GOP primaries. Cruz is the vice chairman of the NRSC, though he has often worked at cross-purposes with the group.
"I disagree with what the NRSC has done there," he said. "When I took on the role leadership had told me that they'd learned the lessons from 2010 to stay out of primaries."
Cruz disagreed that he was causing problems for other GOP senators and blamed leadership.
"I don't want to throw any Republicans under the bus," he said, criticizing McConnell and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) for whipping Republicans to vote for the procedural motion to get to a final vote on the debt ceiling bill. "To be clear, it was Republican leadership that was looking to throw Republicans under the bus."

I think that the between the lines translation of this is that Cruz did not want to in any way help John Cornyn get reelected.
Without Cruz's endorsement, Cornyn may be forced into a runoff next Tuesday and then can be removed from the ballot in May.
Cruz knows that the senate republicans need new leadership, and he's doing what he can, very shrewdly, to make that happen.
Cruz is nothing more than an egotist and self centered politician who is only concerned about himself.
“Cruz is nothing more than an egotist and self centered politician who is only concerned about himself.”
That’s true of every current officeholder. He, however, is one of the few fighting for conservatism unabashedly and bravely.
Spoken like someone who has a major problem with locating his own arse in a room lined with mirrors.
Are we talking about the same Cruz? ‘Cause the Ted Cruz I know is nothing like you say.
So, in that respect in your opinion, he is no different than any other politician?
Emphasis on “shrewd”. Cruz picks his battles in this case. Why take on McConnell forces, at this particular time, over a contested senate leadership battle when doing so would telegraph the presumption that McConnell will be re-elected?
Give it a rest ... IMHO
Ted Cruz Ping!
If you want on/off this ping list, please let me know.
Please beware, this is a high-volume ping list!
THANK YOU onyx!
“Cruz is nothing more than an egotist and self centered politician who is only concerned about himself.”
I see this exact same line written in every Cruz-related thread.
It is always written by one of three “people.”
J’Accuse.
It is quite likely that Cornbread will not get 51% and there will be a runoff.
If so I am looking for him to go with Stovall.
.
Who do you actually support?
My pleasure.
God bless and keep Senator Ted Cruz, his precious family and all of his supporters.
Opinions are like....
If so I am looking for him to go with Stovall.

So in your projection it will Stovall/Cornyn in the runoff.
Old Retired Army Guy’s thoughts on Cruz JUST during this month.
Man, Cruz slamming is about 80% of your posts. I guess slamming Palin is just so passé?

Just look at that white tie and those shades, and that little wave to his sheep. He looks more like a Drug Lord than a Presidential candidate.

I predict that Mc Connell will be reelected and the Republicans will gain the majority in the Senate and Cruzs committee appointments will be the Sanitation and Sewage Disposal Committee.

I am beginning to be convinced that one of Cruzs goals is a third party and he wants to lead it.

Dont worry about Cruz. If Mc Connell is Majority Leader next January, Senator Cruz might get a seat on the Public Sewer Committee.

If Mc Connell gets reelected and the Republicans get the Majority, Cruz will be lucky to get a seat on the Public Sanitation Committee.

There is something about a guy who is a camera hound and has a $2000 haircut. Have you ever noticed how much Cruz looks like the actor/comedian Bill Murray? Probably both just as serious about what they say.

Actually, I am just about to crawl in a hole and avoid all politics, because I think ALL politicians (including Cruz, Paul, etc.) are in it for their own self financial reward.

It IS undoubtedly true. This guy is the same kind of publicity hound as Chucky Schumer. His only agenda is the advancement of Ted Cruz. As a career military guy who learned that teamwork builds strength, I view Cruz as a self serving individual, totally void of principle. I would not want a person like this in my unit.

Cruz is a Hero????? What medals has he been awarded for his combat experiences? Calling any politician a Hero is an affront to the real heroes, most of whom are dead. Politicians are in it for the money and/or power and Cruz is no different. Everytime I see him on TV, I wonder if he is in camera competition with Schumer. Dont let guys like this fool you into thinking they are championing some nobel cause. They are in it for themselves and I say a pox on all their houses.

Cruz doesnt give a hoot about the Republicans winning the majority next November. He is nothing more than a publicity hound chasing the 2016 Republican nomination. Reminiscent of Chucky Schumer, dont get in his way when there is a camera around.
