Research from Stanford University in California holds out hope for hurricane protection that's better and cheaper than a seawall. The study, published Wednesday in the journal Nature Climate Change, uses computer models to estimate the reduction in hurricane winds and storm surge that results from installing huge wind turbine farms. For example, had there been 78,000 turbines spread across a wide swath of Louisiana coastline when Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, the turbines would have reduced the wind speed by between 80 and 98 mph and the storm surge by 79 percent, the study showed. For Hurricane Sandy, which hit New York and New Jersey in 2012, the model projected a wind speed reduction of 78 to 87 mph and up to 34 percent decrease in storm surge.

Bullsh*t...
Drive by the massive windfarm on I-65 near Remington, In.
They don’t run when it’s too hot (might burn out), they don’t run when it’s too cold(brittle things break), they don’t run in icing conditions, they don’t run in lightening conditions, they don’t run in High winds, and they don’t run in no winds.
They always seem to running when the birds use one of the biggest migratory routes in North America though, which they built this smack in the middle of.
Of course, if you note that inconvenient truth, you are just a racist that hates the idea of a black president.
Assuming the study is correct...
Wind turbines have such a huge impact on a hurricane but won’t effect the climate negatively? Like say cause droughts by changing the course of regional weather patterns? All the while we are suppose to worry about a harmless CO2 molecule? Or, will wind turbines ONLY effect climate in positive ways? Stupid liberals.
“78,000 windmills are cheaper and better than a seawall?”
In addition. a seawall will keep the smaller Kaiju from wrecking NOLA!
Plus there is a brake on the rotors, so when the wind speed is to high, they shut down.
Me thinks this study is bogus.
This gives me inspiration for a song
Where have all the seagulls gone
Long time passing
Where have all the seagulls gone
Long long ago
Where have all the seagulls gone
Chopped up in the fans everyone
When will they ever learn
When will they ever learn
Stupid stupid stupid.
And the wind will pass right over the towers and do what it was going to do all along.
A windmill can extract a certain amount of energy from the wind, but it should be obvious that they can’t sap enough of the wind’s energy to make a difference.
This, and all other schemes to change the weather, are stupid.
I never cease being surprised at the colossal stupidity of some humans.
These supposed “scientists” are on crack.

This idea is almost as brilliant as the one that replaced paper bags with plastic bags.
==
But ... the idea looked so good — on paper.
==
Are the states or FED or FEMA responsible for cleaning up the wind turbines damaged by the first F4 that hits?
Who is responsible for maintenance?
Who is responsible for cleaning up all the dead birds killed by these machines?
Are these going to be located on-shore or off-shore? Are they going to ruin the view of the gulf? [Lib Ted Kennedy complained about the wind turbines located in his line of sight off Cape Hatteras]
==
It might be cheaper just to rent a big flotilla, load all the lib politicians on it, and push it out into the path of the hurricane. All the hot air coming from the flotilla-of-politicians would cause the hurricane to rise and miss the entire coastline.
Okay, where’s my grant money???
All "studies" that receive Federal funds should be required to begin their written reports with the words, "In a perfect world... ".
As the Bible says.
I’m not saying this is viable, but the turbines would affect the outer winds first and keep the storm from ever reaching the strength that would damage the turbines. Hurricanes and thunderstorms gain strength by drawing in warm moist air from the outside along the surface.
20,000 - 50,000 ft. Lots of times flying back from Hawaii they could knock off an hour on the time.
This ‘study’ was released to get out in front of the anti-windmill backlash that’s brewing. People are clueing into the scam. This ‘study’ is just an attempt to scare the herd back into line - “the world will end if you take away our totems to Gaia, our precious windmills.”
Some freepers are so witty!
That research blows.

If 400 turbines require about 110 acres each then 78,000 X 110 = 8.6 Million Acres = 13,400 square miles.
There are 52,000 sq miles in LA so it would require usage of 25% of the entire state just for the windmills...good luck with that.
