The bible saga Son of God will be the antidote to the poison that Passion of the Christ became, Anti-Defamation League National Director Abraham Foxman told TheWrap Tuesday.
Its almost a disservice to Son of God to compare the two, he said. Mark Burnett and Roma Downeys pared-down version of the History channel miniseries The Bible opens nationwide Friday on roughly 3,000 screens Friday.
Its been 10 years to the day since Passion of the Christ debuted, and its still the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever. But its remembered as much for the charges of anti-Semitism, excessive violence and prerelease controversy as it is for its $370 million box-office haul.

Gibson bloodied the Jews by portraying them as such villains, said Foxman. He was among the Jewish leaders who a decade ago spoke out bitterly against Gibsons brutal recounting of Christs crucifixion, saying its depiction of sadistic Pharisees and stereotypical characters fanned the flames of hatred against Jews.
But he has no problem with Son of God.
The story of the crucifixion and the way it has been used through the centuries has never been good for the Jews, he said.
Having said that, Son of God is the most sensitive, caring depiction of the story of Jesus that I have ever seen. The producers have done everything possible to put the events into historical, political and psychological context.
Foxman (photo left) said that he thought Son of God could replace Passion of the Christ as the go-to movie for films about the life and death of Christ.

Foxman said that his organization met with Downey and Burnett and provided each other with mutual guidance.

Good point!
so in this new film...
The Pharisees are the good guys and that upstart rabble rousing Jesus gets his ???
What amazes me is it happened just like God planned it. He knew before He created us He would have to send His Son. God had a choice and He chose love.
The great thing about the Bible is there were no surprises as far as God knowing or some alternative to the end result. It all happened just the way He saw it.
Christ was 'sinner friendly' too, and every day I thank Him for that. Though I do understand your context.
RE: It will be PC and sinner friendly.
In what sense is it sinner friendly?
Actually, the entire Gospel is pretty sinner friendly. If God didn't love sinners he wouldn't have sent his son to die on the cross.
Where’s the Like button when you need it?!
Even the Old Testament has a few Jewish villains.

Can someone remind me of the actual damage or uptick of anti-Semitism that actually occurred because of "The Passion of the Christ"? I don't remember hearing about any. I don't know of anyone who hates Jews because the Jewish leaders of the time were portrayed as the villains in this movie (and they were portrayed that way because that was a historical fact surrounding the events in question). The only "controversy" that came up was BEFORE the movie was released, and it was all generated by attention gluttons like Foxman.
Agreed. I’ve never seen a movie that moved me as much as The Passion of the Christ. Beautifully and artistically made, fine acting, powerful where it needed to be and restrained too where it could have gotten sentimental. The depiction of Satan was well done.
It was the Romans who actually killed Christ. The Jews weren’t allowed to at the time.

Get bent with more of your synthetic hurt feelings.
God chose you, he adopted us and told us him the while thing would unfold.
Seems like a good deal for both sides.
Your team acted as players in the fulfillment of the prophecy .

Only problem I got is Giffelte Fish. Disgusting and I’ll eat anything.
Latke’s, Kugle, Matza Ball Soup, Shabat, Purim, Hannukah, Passover and the prayers, as well the formality are all great.
Heck, after twenty years I no longer get called on to ask my very first question that put everyone, at the table in stitches “Why is this night any different from another?”.
LOL!
I didn’t know.
I do now and look forward to Passover.
Luv brisket, latkes, chicken and all the horse radish I can eat.
If I don’t pass out from a really ling and formal observance, which I think will happen this year, as my friend lost his father and it will be very important to him to live his faith on this day.
True - many wonderful Jews in the film.
Actually, I thought the Roman always came off looking much worse than the Jews.
In any case, it’s all ok. Everyone was forgiven, and it was all God’s plan.
The Jews turned Christ over to the Romans for the purpose of execution. They practically begged Pilate to crucify him. The Temple was corrupt and they corrupted their people. Pilate represents moral relativism; “what is truth?” he asked. Pilate was afraid to stand up to the Jews and say no, even though he knew Christ was innocent. Jesus, his mother, and most of his followers were Jewish. I think the point of the POTC was that it was our sins that crucified Christ. Everytime we sin, it’s another lash, another blow, another nail. Try not to sin.
It was all Orchestrated by God the Father. Jesus wasn't killed by anyone. He freely gave up his life. The cross was simply the instrument God chose to fulfill his purpose.
That’s right, we now need a politically corrected Bible, one that doesn’t offend anyone!
Nope. They pretty much did that themselves.
All of mankind put Christ on the cross. The Romans provided the venue, the Pharisees provided the motive.
