Those who lollygag in the left lane of highways and interstates could be ticketed under legislation approved in the state House on Wednesday. House Bill 459, by Rep. Bill Hitchens, R-Rincon, was approved 162-9.
The bill makes it a misdemeanor for any driver on a divided highway who does not move to the right when a car going faster approaches from behind.

It’s illegal to pass on the right.
If you disagree, state traffic laws are available online, so correct me if I’m wring. (What you’re probably thinking of are laws that prohibiting using the shoulder to pass on the right).
Yeah, but if I’m going faster than the traffic in the right. I shouldn’t be inconvenienced because you want to break the law. I’ll pull over when that right lane opens up. Until then, you can thank me for saving you speeding tickets.

Or when youre doing the speed limit and going faster than the traffic in the right lane, but the idiot behind you wants to do 30 miles over the speed limit.
If you’re not pulling into the right lane after a pass and there’s room and time, then you’re the safety hazard.
If you’re passing by a smart 5+ mph and traffic on the right is stacked up, then it’s congested traffic, the “keep right” rule is being followed, and the guy behind has to wait for your poky ass.
“Very true. And anyone whose ever been in a taxi in Italy knows that Italians are some of the best drivers around. Crazy? Sure... But damn good drivers. “
My brother and his wife flew to Europe, rented a car in Normandy and headed into Paris. He went around the Arc de Triomphe, traffic circle, and it freaked him out.
They turned the rental car in, and took the trains and planes for the rest of their trip.
He posed the question to me: “how could you drive there?”
Simple, I told him. Just adopt the European driving style. Cars come closer together.
I brought my car back to the states without a scratch on it.
As long as you actually make an effort to pass the slower traffic to your right and then clear the left lane, that’s cool. But anyone who creates a rolling roadblock by pacing door-handle to door-handle with the car in the next lane is asking to get an unpleasant reaction by those that wish to get on down the road with minimal hindrances.
Not saying that’s you, just sayin’.
And how many of those wouldn’t have happened if slow poke jag offs that think they have the duty to enforce the law had gotten the hell out of the way?
There’s a reason why our highway death rate is twice Germany’s. Obsessing on speed, especially other people’s speed, makes you part of the problem.
And some people have jobs which involve the review and analysis of high speed TC pics — and they get to see ones like this everyday.

You and me, both.
Only a reckless driver could get into a wreck in those circumstances.
But I guess that’s what we’re arguing for here — the right of reckless drivers to be...well...reckless.
I stand corrected.
But then the problem is because of two reckless drivers, one speeding and one deciding he’s in charge. Remove either reckless driver from the situation and there’s no accident.
I agree that there is probably no accident involving both of those two drivers.
At least not in your pictures. But it does happen that the rolling road block guy decides to stay in front of the wrong car and gets rear ended, often with ugly results for both.
Which is the big questions for the self appointed law enforcers out there: if you’re so convinced the guy coming up behind you is an idiot and a menace and bound to be in a horrific accident any minute now why are you so hell bent on staying in front of him? One of my primary rules while driving is to gain separation from the obvious idiot, if I’m in the left and somebody is coming up behind me at ludicrous speed I’m more eager to get out of their way than somebody only going a bit faster than me. Not because it’s the rules, but to remove myself from their equation and let them have their inevitable accident without me.
Some U.S. cities like Denver and Austin have toll/bypass roads that while longer than the four lane that goes through or close to the major metro center, are pleasures to drive thanks to the great condition of the roads, the lesser traffic, and the higher average speeds. My wife and I love these bypass roads. You don’t even have to stop at a toll gate for the one by Denver. A camera takes a picture of your license plate, and you get the bill from the state of Colorado about one month later. Worth the sixteen dollars or whatever it was we paid.
If you are going at the speed limit in the left lane you have to make way for a speeder?...and you are the criminal.
Correct.
That is totally not the same thing as me driving a perfectly safe 78 on a 70 highway and coming up behind some purse-lipped, eyes-locked-forward left lane speed limit monitor with his cruise planted at 69.8 mph.
Are you that guy??
So what you are saying is that people who obey the rule of law while driving are evil people. But people, like you I suppose you, who drive dangerously i.e. 15-20+ mph over the speed limit are not unlike radical leftists for whom laws are made to be broken. I don't think you realize what you said.
