The Pentagon plans to scale back the US Army by more than an eighth to its lowest level since before World War II, signaling a shift after more than a decade of ground wars.
Saying it was time to "reset" for a new era, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel recommended shrinking American forces from 520,000 active duty troops to between 440,000 and 450,000.

The problem with drones is that they are a great weapon...
Until someone figures out how to cut the control feed, or scramble the electronics, EMP-like. Then, they are just expensive falling rocks in the sky.
Great for low-intensity conflicts, and useless in a high-intensity electronic battlefield.
Fine.
Let’s implement the F22.
I ain’t no X pert or nuttin but, if you say it’s betterish I’ll take your word for it.
Whatever forces our adversaries to sound money they can ill afford trying to keep up with us is fine by me.
The GOP could stop this but I’ll bet they won’t even try.
There are more people in the world who want to kill Americans than there are Americans....reducing the force that will work.
.... Just in time for WWIII .... Great intuitive planning you imbeciles!
The stupidest thing is that they want to retire the A-10 Warthog - its a beast !!!
Just ask the Iraqi soldiers from the Gulf War - they were scared sh*tless of it ...
Soros just poured himself another celebratory Martini, with two olives!
Good graphics. You may not be allowed to depict how WE see Obama here on FR. Showing truth to an Obot is like showing a cross to Dracula.
people with guns in their hands fighting against RPVs will be like men with spears against gatling guns.
CMP skills are not going to be as effective as being able to hack drones’ control uplinks. The IIAF spanked USAF with that drone hijack caper. Better to study hacking into Wifi data channels..
Donna, I’ve had the same suspicion.
He’s building up a heavily armed federal non-military (come on ... an armed Post Office force? Seriously?), spying on everybody and taking control of every aspect of our lives, to include media monitors.
Now he wants to lay off thousands of troops, after a campaign to fire generals who don’t agree with him. This can’t be a coincidence. Everything he does is political, so think about the domestic ramifications first, not the foreign.
i couldnt figure out how he could pull this off. now we know,
The Gulf war is the only war we have won since WW2. Any guesses why? Could it be the R.O.I.'s?
Armies are here to kill people and break things until the other side wants to quit. We have trouble remembering that from engagement to engagement and continue to try to win the "Hearts and Minds" of those trying to kill us.
A restructured army is fine if we restructure our attitudes to fit.
Speak loudly and carry a twig.
“Speak loudly and carry a twig.”
A $500B+ twig?
It's all relative, and it won't stop there.
10 trillion for welfare? Funding a military is one of the few things the federal government is supposed to do.
I think that many misunderstand.
War is archaic. Viet Nam proved there will be no more war. The people decided that the end of war would produce the end of war. War is not the answer.
If there is no military there can be no excuse for war. /s
All the gone flowers will reappear /s
“Funding a military is one of the few things the federal government is supposed to do.”
We don’t have the money for either the present welfare system or the present military.
There will be little change. Only more spending on everything.
indeed. amd what are we to do about this?
the tyranny marches backwards.
a new softer gentler military is on the drawing boards
no more making mo and akmed a skeered.
Hagel should be at the top fd the Very Short List of people who MUST GO!
