So, I lurk on Free Republic quite a bit. Usually it's to read some of the outrageous comments some post here and some of it is to see what your opinions are on certain articles that also get posted elsewhere.
So, a little bit about myself. I'm in my 20s and of Hispanic origin. I was born in New York but moved to Florida when I was three years old. I'm what you guys would consider a "socialist". I don't consider myself a socialist, I'm a supporter of the free market economy except I favor strong government regulations.
While on many issues am probably to the left of the Democratic Party there is one issue I agree with the Republicans but it isn't an issue that would ever sway me to vote for the Republican Party. That issue is gun rights. I love guns and I believe the 2nd amendment is a fundamental right to the people of the United States. I don't believe in a ban on "assault" weapons or on accessories like there is on certain sized magazines. I also support the right for one to properly defend themselves with or without deadly force with your legally owned firearm.
However, on economic and social issues I side with the DNC. I'm probably to the left of the DNC on most issues.
So anyways, ask away.
Yea but this is the first time in history nearly an entire generation could compete with Idiocracy and lose.
There are some very smart and ambitious people there. But they are a minority. It’s partly my (GenX) fault and partly the Boomer/Hippie crew’s fault for not stopping the liberalism that has made their future what it is. But it’s mostly the Millenial’s fault for not trying to be more than they (again, not all but many/most) are.
I know you are. LOL I’m not in the Beatles generation (was three when they came here and my wife was a tiny baby) so don’t blame me for what Jane Fonda and Bill & Hillary did.
Which is why it’s so groaningly funny.
What’s worse is that it’s also reality in the current military. And all anyone needs to do as ask a vet with more than a handful of years in service.
Thanks Barry, Dems and GOP for totally screwing the planet. We sure do appreciate it...not.
Again, there are good Millenials there. My kid is one of the good ones. But the Occupy/Entitlement/Participation trophy mentality is now part and parcel of the Armed Forces.
And think the ones coming up next are going to screw it up even more

A Little Buzz Kill after some SNSD.
Nah...I think Gen X and the Boomers share some of the responsibility. The millenials got handed some serious BS. But all kidding aside, The idiocy on display in the modern workplace by millenials is documentably worse than ours was. And If the generation survives to create another one, There will be less decent people than ever among them. All us GenXers and Boomers will be dead And there will be you and a mere handful like you fighting a tide of flaming magnesium level stupidity.
Adversity makes you stronger.
Remember no more than 1/3rd of Americans even supported the idea of Independence and look what we got.
Sorta. Adversity makes a person of average abilities stronger. Even lower abilities if thy have a good moral grounding. But all kidding aside, Today’s young people on the whole, do NOT deal with adversity other than to embrace becoing a ‘victim’ of it. Thus all the therapists, the calls for easing of standards and the demands for things to which they ‘feel’ entitled.
Look at Occupy. That is the mentality GenX sees on most millenials we encounter. We were FAR from perfect. But most of us were not professional victims.
That was before I was old enough to drink!
I know many of my Class Mates of '06 who have gone to Afghanistan and served their country.
Think about what your Parents thought of your Generation, I will bet they thought of them as professional victims.
This is why I keep saying that there ARE good millenials. I fully believe that they are. But numbers do not lie. Look at the number of womynz studies/arts majors vs engineering majors. Look at Occupy. Look at the drooling support occupy got. Look at the demands from millenials that they get paid DOUBLE minimum wage fro burger flipping.
That isn’t the soldier in the sandbox. That’s the typical young person in America.
And As my kid is leaving after 2 ups, I hear a lot about what those entitled POS are doing to it.
Female -—SEALS-— anyone? Reduced STANDARDS for all anyone? Because they don’t FEEL they should have to meet the old standards?
Yup. That is a recent development. At no point in history have the UCMJ and mil standards been so thoroughly compromised.
I thought you only had a young daughter?
What branch is he/she in?
Does they work with alot of New Recruits.
Because I can tell you, when I went to AF Basic back in '09 it wasn't nothing like Full Metal Jacket al la '67 (not that it ever was)
But it sure as hell wasn't easy.
But that is what I mean, when those other millennials get Smacked with a Clue Stick of Reality they will shape up just fine I think.
Just the daughter. In at 17, almost 8 years USAF. Did gate duty in Iraq, SERE, the 117, the 22 the 35 (testing) and now flies with the big boys.
She has worked with lots of newbs in both Tech and in ‘Social’ areas of the USAF. And most she’s not fans of. Some very much. Most...no.
To be sure it’s been getting lax for years. But it’s hitting the warp drive now.
Not that I can blame her, Air Force has alot of Bureaucratic BS to put up with:/
It sucks. But it’s by design. Death from within. It’s the communist way. The 1963 communist goals were put into play against the military as well as the civ population.
They seem to be working.
(But it does bring up a Paradox though with the Soviets having a far larger military than us and yet had to pay for social standards too, which were very low......does communism not make sense to anyone else or is it just me?)
Get yer’ mind right Comrade! Embrace the glorious future!;)
“I favor strong government regulations.”
Oh, so that you are not a socialist, after all. You are a totalitarian statist!
“If you support the free market in any way, shape or form how would you describe yourself as a socialist?”
There is a conflict when comparing socialism to capitalism. One is trying to compare a political system to an economic system. That is an ‘apple-and-oranges’ argument. There are many rich socialists.....Soros, et al, and they apparently have no problem existing in a capitalist system.
There is a direct comparison only when trying to compare a socialist political system to a Republican Democracy. That is where the socialists always lose the argument.
He seems to be confused about what he likes and dislikes but underneath it all he seems to be a totalitarian statist. ;-)
Over the years, it’s been my experience that few people really know -what- they are or actually stand for since they never give it any in depth thought. They often seem just go with whatever their dad was or their friends/social circle identifies as. Even when their actual actions may contradict the self ID.
Which is why for example, people call themselves ‘liberal’ (modern definition) and own guns or call themselves ‘conservative’ and repeatedly vote for people that support the opposite of their claimed ideals.
They don’t THINK.
The brilliant shining path to the glorious future of the workers paradise, comrade. ;-)
