HOUSTON, TX The nations leading labor union will plan to spend $300 million in 2014 trying to unseat Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and four other Republican Governors.
More: AFL-CIO to Target Walker, Other Governors
Peoples World reported that the AFL-CIO announced on Thursday morning during a press conference in Houston that they would spend money trying to unseat Governor Walker. Other Governors that the labor organization is targeting are John Kasich (R-Ohio), Tom Corbett (R-Pennsylvania), Rick Snyder (R-Michigan), and Rick Scott (R-Florida).
The American Federation of Teachers backed the AFL-CIOs plan. President Randi Weingarten said: In many ways it is difficult to get anything done in Washington. In states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and Florida a war is being waged against the people and their standard of living. The states are where the people live and we want to focus on where the people are.
AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said that the main issue of the campaign is relating to raising workers wages. This was reflected in a poll conducted February 8th to the 11th by Hart Research in the States of Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Three out of five voters surveyed in the poll said that they are dissatisfied with the direction of the economy. Guy Molyneux of Hart Research confirmed to Wisconsin Election Watch that a poll was conducted in the State of Wisconsin during the period of February 8th to the 11th.
Extra: Learn More About Governor Scott Walker
On Friday morning, the campaign of Governor Scott Walker issued a fundraising e-mail asking for donations linking the Peoples World Article. In the e-mail, Campaign Manager Stephan Thompson said: While Governor Walker has been focused on moving Wisconsin forward and turning a $3.6 billion deficit into nearly a $1 billion surplus, the big-government unions have been focused on taking the state back to the days where they reigned supreme the days where taxes and unemployment were skyrocketing.
According to the last Marquette University Law School Poll conducted on January 27th, Walker had a 51 percent approval rating.
Unions targeting Scott Walker, other Republican Governors.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Spending money on elections is why the unions keep losing unionization votes at places like VW in Tennessee.
Uh, you own the place, the "Republicans" are all closet Dems, and you pass whatever piece of commie filth you envision! What the hell do you want???
I say go for it! Good for the economy.
Republican leadership should threaten the unions with non-union companies building the newest pipeline .
We’ve got the best “government” that stolen money can buy.
* That could be going to shore up their retiree healthcare.
* That could be training a new generation of skilled workers.
* That could be hiring the best investment managers for their pension funds...
What a waste...
Spending 300mil of taxpayers money. Government unions need to DIE!
What does raising union thug wages have to do with the direction of the economy? People need to back off a little on the recreational drugs.
If unions have an extra $300 million, there is something seriously wrong.
$300,000,000? That doesn’t sound like union money, that sounds like Soros money and all his tentacles, in the form og global organizations.
Shouldn’t they be forced to account for where this money comes from?
yup
Exactly....union membership thru US is @12%....more in public sector I know...but sheesh...There must be money laundering going on
