The NFL could be set for a radical rule change.
The new penalty, which will be automatic 15-yards if a player uses the N-word, is set to be introduced during the leagues owners meetings in March, according to a CBS Sports report.
John Wooten, who heads up the Fritz Pollard Alliance which pays attention to diversity in the NFL, says he expects the NFLs competition committee to suggest creating a rule penalizing players who use the N-word.
The rule would also include the potential for players to get ejected from the game, if they use the word a second time.
Wooten, who was at the NFL Combine on Friday, said he wants to completely erase the word from being used in the NFL.
"I will be totally shocked if the competition committee does not uphold us on what we're trying to do, he said. "We want this word to be policed from the parking lot to the equipment room to the locker room. Secretaries, PR people, whoever, we want it eliminated completely and want it policed everywhere."
The NFL has yet to comment on Wootens idea, but he remains extremely hopeful the rule will be passed because there is too much disrespect in the game.
How many yards for calling someone a “Honkey”?
Sadly, I think that Limbaugh is right. The Wussification of the NFL is going to obliterate fans’ interest in what was a, one time, great game.
This year, the ONLY time I caught a sight of the “Olympics” was if I entered a coffee shop that had a TV on. Who the hell cares?
When a touchdown is called back because the scorer taunted and hurt the feelings of the safety that was out played, a hundred thousand TV sets will be turned off for good. And who will even care?
They are allowing their own demise.
The majority of players in the NFL are non-white.
“Omaha” is code word for the N word.
What about the F-word?
What happened to "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me?"
Football is on its way out with unionization of college players, the word police, and ...
This is a racist rule. It’s will obviously target more blacks than whites.
“uses the N-word..”
What are we, in the 3rd Grade here?
They already have it, unsportsmanlike conduct, also taunting.
It's clear from this that the NFL considers possible hurt feelings on a par with, say, concussions (which if you think about it are "possibly life-threatening"). This is inanity at the highest level!
This has got to be satire.....
15 yard penalty for scoring a touchdown and hurting the other team’s defenses feelings....
Gosh I WONDER if Rush will talk about this...???!
\heavy sarcasm.
Hi, Snerdly..!
What about racial slurs against white players?
I remember a black politician in FL repeatedly calling a white policeman ‘boy’ during a traffic stop in what I felt was an effort to get the policeman to use it back at the black politician so that HE could cry racism.
If it not enforced equally against all players there will be a backlash among white players. You can count on it.
How will the referee explain this. I can just see a guy saying “He just wasn’t throwing the ball to me enough so I called him niggardly. That penalty was B. S.
This is so freaking childish.
The word is “nigger”, not “n-word”.
We have become a nation of thin skin, limp-wristed children.
If it not enforced equally against all players there will be a backlash among white players. You can count on it.
