Violent clashes have erupted during anti-government protests in Ukraine's capital, Kiev, with at least nine people, including two policemen, dead.
In the worst violence in weeks, police used rubber bullets and stun grenades as thousands of protesters marching on parliament.
A deadline set by the security forces for the violence to end has passed with no immediate sign of police action.
The clashes came as MPs were due to debate changes to the constitution.
The proposals would curb the powers of President Viktor Yanukovych, but the opposition say they were blocked from submitting their draft, meaning no debate could take place.
EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said she was "deeply worried" by the escalation of violence, and urged politicians to "address the root causes".
Russia blamed the upsurge in violence on "connivance by Western politicians and European structures" and their refusal to consider the "aggressive actions" of radical factions within the protest movement.

You are correct, but you miss the point, the US Occupy rioters agreed with and supported the progressive Obama controlled US Government.
If they opposed the Obama government and demanded regime change they would be shot (the Ukrainian rioters oppose their government and demand regime change).
Apart from Ukrainian protestors getting shot, you have a point. I guess.

Also note that they managed to install Spanish as a de-facto second state language in CA and, I guess, in other border states.
Compare to the majority of Ukrainians who voted for Yanukovich. They do not want to be prohibited from speaking Russian - many of them are not that young to pick up the textbooks and study a language that doesn't gain them anything in work or life. What would you say if the US President announces that starting tomorrow you are required to speak Swahili instead of English? Will you happily sign up for the language courses - or, perhaps, you will question the order?
Unfortunately, language wars are not that rare. Look at Quebec. The dominant language there is French; Canada is officially bilingual; however Quebec goes out of their way to exterminate English. In Quebec a store owner can be fined for having a sign in English. This is done by the Parti Québécois to promote separatism; the politicians want to have their personal country to rule.

There is no language war in Ukraine, it’s rather cultural. The “language question” is just a convenient wrap for other grievances. Nobody is required to SPEAK Ukrainian, only understand and use it in official business. Besides, everybody born in Ukraine studied Ukrainian in school, so it is a non-issue for natives. It is a problem for pro-Russian folks still dreaming of all-mighty USSR.

Victoria Nuland, the State Department’s Valley Girl sure talked about who was acceptable for Ukrainian leadership positions...in her insecure phone call.
They supported the government but demanded MORE RIGHT NOW, and they would Occupy the said property of others until they got it, free.
The Ukranian protesters are protesting the corruption of their government in economic affairs (government insiders steal from the people) and this is a legitimate grievance.
However the EU deal will not fix this problem, it will simply substitute a new set of government politicians and bureaucrats who will also steal, but their theft will be LEGAL because of the EU agreement, and there's no going back.
Both groups of protesters are protesting the theft of what they think is theirs, Occupy being wrong and Ukrainians being right, but neither understands the laws of economics.
Occupy are just thieves and looters, and the the Ukrainians are suckers trading real liberty for a politicians promise of security. Once you are a slave legally, your owner can use force to keep you that way.

You must have missed that phone call in which the US asst Sec of State made it clear who was going to be installed as the next pres, and that the other candidates were unacceptable to the US regime.
