Ukraine: Deadly clashes around parliament in Kiev
BBC News ^ | 2/18/2014

Violent clashes have erupted during anti-government protests in Ukraine's capital, Kiev, with at least nine people, including two policemen, dead.

In the worst violence in weeks, police used rubber bullets and stun grenades as thousands of protesters marching on parliament.

A deadline set by the security forces for the violence to end has passed with no immediate sign of police action.

The clashes came as MPs were due to debate changes to the constitution.

The proposals would curb the powers of President Viktor Yanukovych, but the opposition say they were blocked from submitting their draft, meaning no debate could take place.

EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said she was "deeply worried" by the escalation of violence, and urged politicians to "address the root causes".

Russia blamed the upsurge in violence on "connivance by Western politicians and European structures" and their refusal to consider the "aggressive actions" of radical factions within the protest movement.

I will pray for your country and your people. They deserve Freedom. But then, doesn’t everyone deserve a chance for Freedom?

Obamaphones, indeed.
Putin offers Ukraine $15B in loans and cheap natural gas in bid to trump EU deal.

“...And how do we call people refusing to learn even language of their own country?...”

They do not object to learning the Ukrainian language academically but they do object to the language Gestapo. Take a name like “Anna” which should not be translated or transcribed differently if the citizen wants to be called Anna she should have that freedom. But all her documents and transcripts will have Ganna used instead of Anna as if Anna is subversive to the Ukraine.

What we get here in Central NC is a carefully, racially “balanced” group of nodding heads “reporting” car crashes (5 min), Oh!Bama! worship (5 min), cute kids/consumer news (5 min), weather (OMG we’re ALL GONNA DIE!!!—10 min), the sports SPORTS SPORTS!!!!!!!!!!.

In our house, we refer to this as “mushhead” news, aimed at frightened, unmarried women and effeminate males. (I don’t use the term “men.”)

Obama voters, in other words.

I don’t have nice things to say about, for instance, $arah Palin supporters, but mushheads are really pathetic.

If this happened in the US the rioters would be shot down in the streets.

Sadly, yes.

The reason that the Ukrainian government won't take the gloves off is because they know that US/NATO will use it as excuse to do the same thing they did to Libya, Syria, and Serbia.

And Serbia, Kosovo.

The Ukrainians know that the US/NATO is funding the protestors like it funded the "protestors" in Libya and Syria. They saw what happened to the Libya and Syria when they fought back against the "protestors".

Again, sadly yes.

On the other hand, George Soros stands to make billions.

From Ukrainian debt slaves.

Why don’t you demand that your US Passport be printed in Church Slavonic? Your argument is typical for mentally challenged fans of Russian TV.

I swear, for all the he-man Vladimir Putin is made out to be, Russkies suffer from penis-envy if you mention Soros.

If I were influenced by Russian media I would not hate Viktor Yanukovych. Maybe you should be a little less parochial.

So the “protestors” brought helmets and riot shields, gas masks, and air rifles.

Cute.

Same to you. Ukrainian is the language of Ukraine - deal with it.

Sometimes message of peace and non-violence is hard to deliver without blunt tools and pain-inducing implements.

If this happened in the US the rioters would be shot down in the streets.

At first, maybe.

The return volley would be THUNDEROUS here though. They aren't allowed firearms in the Ukraine. Not like here. Hell, they weren't even allowed to where any kind of helmet or mask to any of the "peaceful" demonstrations BY LAW.

They have a plethora of reasons to be righteously peeved.

So even though their language policies are equivalent (if applied the same in this country) of not allowing someone’s driver's license to read “Maria” or “Jorge”. One must use only “Mary” and “George” and you think that is dandy. You sure push people away from your side. You sure must hate having allies. You're quite happy to be a language Nazi rather than working with those proud Don Cossacks that did so much to defeat Islamic invaders but now you don't want them to even have the first name of their choice. No wonder their is an East-West divide in the Ukraine.

Fair enough. But not enough to make me run, reflexively, into the arms of another banana republic despot.
