As the debate brews over whether Republicans will take up the task of pushing through immigration reform, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Sunday said he is hopeful Republicans will put something forward.
"I have not given up hope that we would act and we must act," McCain said on "State of the Union" with Candy Crowley.
"In states like mine, the demographics will only overtake and throughout the whole southwest," McCain said referencing the Hispanic vote he said Republicans need to win a national election.
McCain stood by his past comments that Republicans would not be able to win another election race without reform.

Now, one suspects, he's on Double, Secret Censure!
.
Well, Senator, we could start by enforcing current laws; and, stop the usurper from creating new legal directives out of whole cloth as the whim hits him.
The pubbies ain’t got the stones for this fight, though. They have become the left’s patsies, surrender monkeys of the highest order.
Freudian slip?
If businesses need more Mexican workers, why don't they hire the bunch made legal last time?
I know why - because this isn't about 'workers' it's about millions of new democrats...
Why isn’t he the least bit concerned with Obama’s abuse of power?
Maybe he meant Chihuahua.
Republicans ‘must act’ on immigration reform, McCain says
As a registered Republican I agree.
Reform #1. If you entered America by illegal means you are an illegal aliens and that is a crime. You will be arrested and after a hearing if you are proven to be here illegally, you will be returned to whatever Country you are from.ere
Reform #2. While here illegally you are NOT entitled to free healthcare, housing schooling or welfare.
Reform #3 Sanctuary cities/ zones are illegal. Any city that write a law claiming to be such will be fined $25,000 a day for each day the law remains on their books.
Reform #4 Anyone engaging Border authorities or any US law officer on a border situation with gunfire will be considered an enemy combatant and treated as such.
Okay Juan.. Ge these on these on the agenda and passed into law.
Children of those who are here illegally will not be declared US citizens.
I agree that the GOP must act. It must make sure that the laws that are on the books now are enforced, that illegals are held treated as illegals, and the must secure the border.
What are the chances?
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.[Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg]
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...[Posted on 04/21/2013 1:52:42 PM PDT by SoConPubbie]
