The United Auto Workers union suffered a crushing defeat Friday, falling short in an election in which it seemed to have a clear path to organizing workers at Volkswagen AG VOW3.XE +1.10% 's plant in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The setback is a bitter defeat because the union had the cooperation of Volkswagen management and the aid of Germany's powerful IG Metall union, yet it failed to win a majority among the plants 1,550 hourly workers.

Trumpka: “No unicorns for you!”
I had a job at VW for a few weeks. I resigned because they were really looking a seasoned project manager, not a nuts and bolts business analyst.
The germans in mgt. came off as being pretty out of touch, and one german guy I’m sure was gay and just at his job I suspect for hunting other men.
They seem to be completely German and have no interest in learning the culture.
Very different from working at a company that has an American culture.
Outstanding defeat for unions and 0bummer.
I dealt with union thugs when I was a teenager working a summer job, not even fully grown - two thugs threatened that I would get hurt pretty badly if I didn’t do what they said for the union. Besides being motivated to study self-defense, I have hated unions passionately ever since. Unions, as they exist in the United States, are inherently evil, and I always cheer union defeats and do my best not to buy union products.
I’d like to know what % of their members are actually auto workers. Many these days hospital and govt employees.
The UAW had organized the state employees here in Indiana and were disenfranchised by Gov. Daniels.
Thanks for that, I have been sheltered my entire career and never worked for a foreign outfit,...except, of course, the US government.
Hey Barry, they saw your union and told them that you could keep it.
Thanks for the ping/posters. Thanks for your posts/links in this very good thread. Thanks to all posters.
I see Media Matters is accusing Bowman of being a Koch brothers plant but the Koch bros would have had to plant him in the union some 15 years ago.

Both Michigan and Alabama have Republican governors. Gee, could that be a clue to business freedom?
