Wendy Davis, the likely Democratic nominee for Texas governor, said Thursday that she supports gay marriage and called on Attorney General Greg Abbott to stop defending the Texas Constitutions definition of marriage as between one man and one woman. Davis told the San Antonio Express-News editorial board that two people who want to marry should be allowed to do so regardless of their sexual orientation. She said that if shes elected she would support the repeal of the voter-approved constitutional amendment that bans same-sex marriage. She spoke the day after a federal judge in San Antonio heard arguments that the ban on gay marriage violates the equal protection clause of the U.S. Constitution. Same-sex marriage is legal in 17 states, and federal lawsuits have been filed in 24 states. I think that what we see happening at the federal level in terms of constitutional interpretations on that provides some hope that it may be found unconstitutional, Davis said. Abbott spokesman Matt Hirsch said Davis was mimicking President Barack Obamas style of governing. Unlike Senator Davis positions on the issues, the Texas Constitution is not subject to change on the latest whims of the day, Hirsch said. Abbott, the likely Republican nominee for governor, opposes same-sex marriage and has said he will defend the Texas law to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary. Davis was in San Antonio on Thursday for a joint appearance with Democratic lieutenant governor candidate Leticia Van de Putte and San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro to discuss her campaign promise to expand state-funded pre-kindergarten classes to a full day for all children who qualify. Abbotts campaign has said he will announce his plan for public education in the next few weeks.

Actually, I think of the “independent” as self-centered, selfish prima donna who clearly wants to be ‘courted’ and festooned with all sorts of monikers that signify qualities unto them that in practice and evidence clearly are not the case.
I believe that so-called independents are naturally disposed to voting Democrat anyway. They just want that extra special treatment and pandering. By the results from the last several elections, I certainly reject any premise where the words “open” “reasonable” and “intelligent” are used.
I don't either, because the "republicans" are helping them.
Wendy Davis backs limited late-term abortion ban, despite historic filibuster
Truer word, Gaffer.
No state is as red as it used to be. It's only a matter of time until the whole country is blue. But remember though that state elections are not like national ones with the electoral college. A candidate does not receive all of the Houston votes, all the San Antonio votes, etc just because those cities are predominantly blue. I live just outside Houston in Fort Bend County and cannot vote in their elections; but my area is conservative. Also, Annise Parker was elected Houston mayor over a slate of loser candidates.
They still claim today that he would have won Florida, even in a full count. What they have not publicized that, in fact, there were one or two newspapers who actually went through the process of hand counting all of the votes.
The results weren’t what they were looking for, and they quashed the reports.
Strange how the news article does not mention that Federal Judge Orlando Garcia (presiding over the gay marriage case) is the brother-in-law of Leticia Van De Putte (Davis’ running mate for lieutenant governor).
Well Put. I absolutely agree. “I’m not partisan” or “We are think about the issues and pick the best solution”
Yeah, I’ve heard it all.....pathetic.
yes, the Republican “establishment”
New and improved Wendy Waffles, now with more flip-flop
not surprised at all
Wendy, question for you: Should a person who wants to have THREE wives also be allowed to marry? IF NOT - WHY NOT? Why would you "discriminate" against these 4 humans who just want to "love" one another? Why are you not for "marriage equality?"
Don't back down force them to reveal where their moral code is coming from! Which book are they using to form their basis of opinion of what "love" is and what constitutes a "marriage."
Wendy seems to be running on sin.
At this point, I hope she shuts up long enough to get the nomination. She shoots herself in the foot with every statement she makes and at some point, the Dems are going to wise up and realize what a disaster she will be in the general election.
great idea
I think thats what all dems run on
Dems support there candidate unconditionally.
Wendy Davis has the perverted fag vote all locked up. She has absolutely no moral compass so this should surprise no one. Too bad Wendy, but fags and radical feminists DO NOT make up the majority of Texans.
thats why she’s playing to the minorities (dependency class, bunch of fringe minorities added together can beat a majority that is complacent.
