I announced this past week that I will be retiring after having the honor of serving my Los Angeles constituents in Congress for 40 years.
Immediately, speculation began that I am leaving because I am frustrated with a broken institution. But the exact opposite is true: I am leaving Congress with my conviction intact that the legislative branch can be a powerful force for good.
Of course there are aspects of the current Congress that I abhor. This past week, every Republican on the Energy and Commerce Committee, where I have served most of my career, voted to limit the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to regulate carbon pollution that is causing climate change. When my colleague Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) offered a simple amendment affirming that climate change is real, they voted against that, too.
That kind of mindless denial of science is an embarrassment.
Voting over and over to repeal the Affordable Care Act, shutting down the government and threatening default are other deplorable examples of the extremism of tea party Republicans.

He’s lying. Back in November he said that he was going to run yet again, but this past week, he found out that the party apparatchiks were going to cut the House loose and focus on keep the Senate. So, no more chairmanships, and only more bad news for Obamacare as the various shoes drop in the coming months. That’s why he’s bailing, especially since he did nto do so well last election anyway.

I am caring for an elderly parent and at this time have to be in CA.. I am
also fed up with this state, however the state cannot sustain itself!
Many, Many, businesses leaving the state! Many athletes relocating their
residence of record! NO JOBS ANYWHERE except in service industry!
I plan on relocating to Wyoming regardless of the weather as soon as I can! CA. is becoming Mexico VERY QUICKLY!!!

I also am caring for my elderly Mother and will look to leave California after she has passed. I was born and raised here and there is a lot of beautiful country but the liberals have destroyed the state. It is all very obvious now why they were pushing spanish lessons on children all the way back in the early sixties.
I guess he thinks his work is done, the communists are here.
