The release of House Republican principles on immigration reform this week will ignite a contentious debate within the GOP, forcing Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to make a series of crucial decisions in the coming months.
Boehner and other senior members are planning to present the document at the House GOPs annual retreat on Thursday in Cambridge, Md., and the reaction of the rank and file will likely determine how aggressively the leadership will press the issue during an election year.
But if GOP leaders do move forward, they would do so with a series of discrete bills rather than the kind of comprehensive measure the Senate passed in June. The principles are not expected to be long or overly detailed, but they will mark a major shift for the House GOP leadership by endorsing legalization, under certain conditions, for millions of immigrants in the country illegally.

A three day “Retreat”
Boehner has been pretty good at the retreat part.
What’s the rush? I haven’t heard one AMERICAN complain that Congress needs to quickly pass immigration “reform”. NOT ONE!
I hate to say it, but this is a done deal. Otherwise the GOPe would not have leaked this crap. They must have enough support in the GOP, and most especially for them, from the rats.
At a time when the focus should be on the economy of Americans, they go off on this stupid tangent. I swear, they have no sense of strategy.
Are they really insane enough to negotiate with someone who has already said he’ll overide anything he disagrees with?
Party suicide
The best thing for Boehner to say after the retreat: “After long discussion and research, we have decided to best way to tackle immigration reform is to just strictly enforce the existing laws.”
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."
"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."
If the GOP is complicit in this amnesty fiasco, either by taking up the Senate bill or through some piecemeal slight of hand with a series of House bills such as we hear are being cooked up this week, the GOP will cease to exist. It will not survive through the 2016 elections. The people will shun the over-tanned, glad-handing, backslapping quislings and look elsewhere for leaders who actually have the spine for the fight. Make no mistake - to me and many, many others, amnesty is the GOP's Rubicon. Cross it at your electoral peril.
What is amazing is this is news from last summer, the series of small bills approach.
Its still the same story, Bohner must decide what to do, repeated over and over from GOP news teasers.
House leadership keeps on repeating it to keep MSM repeating it as if its news.
Keeps us fighting ghosts, small unspecified bills.
Vote to pass it and lose 30+ million votes. The 15 million illegals that will not vote for you EVER. And the 15 million pissed off voters that will NEVER vote for you again.
It seems to me the democrats are backing off and leaving Boehner & McConnell with their arse hanging in the breeze on this, the idiots. They'll push this through, the media will happily hang amnesty on the GOP and there will go the senate in November.
Who is paying for this amnesty retreat?
I guess there is no place else that they can meet, like the numerous empty meeting room that they use daily.
Ah yes our elected liars at their best, screw the voters we are way above their pay grade and deserve special treatment, perks and anything else that we want so f off.
The GOPe have NO principles.
Taxpayers are paying for security. I’m sure the Chamber of Commerce isn’t paying the Coast Guard bill.
> “But if GOP leaders do move forward, they would do so with a ***series of discrete bills*** ...”
And the Senate will gut it, insert full amnesty version, send it back to conference and then out for a full House vote where all the dems and 17 ‘squish’ republican moderates will pass it, then on to Obama for signature.
To summarize:
SMALL BILLS -> GUTTED BY SENATE
FULL AMNESTY BILL -> CONFERENCE
HOUSE PASSES -> 11 MILLION MEXICANS LEGALIZED
Now here is the important part:
MILLIONS OF MEXICANS REGISTER TO VOTE THIS YEAR.
And they will vote democrat.
How can they vote if they are not citizens?
Because first they don’t care about the law.
Second, voter registration forms do not require proof of citizenship.
How to stop this from happening?
NO IMMIGRATION BILL AT ALL! NOT ONE SENTENCE!
WAIT UNTIL CONSERVATIVES CONTROL THE HOUSE, SENATE AND WHITE HOUSE.
TIMING IS EVERYTHING.
They also take some of their staff with them and we pay for that as well.
I wish I could go on retreats to do my job.
Ah yes, you scratch my back and I’ll scratch your back.
Elected crooks at their finest.
Our countries capital is a breeding sewer for crooks and liars.
