Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) said Tuesday night that he left President Obama's State of the Union speech early after "hearing how the President is further abusing his Constitutional powers."
"I could not bear to watch as he continued to cross the clearly-defined boundaries of the Constitutional separation of powers," Stockman said in a release shortly after Obama's speech ended. "Needless to say, I am deeply disappointed in the tone and content of tonight's address."
Stockman said he was reacting to Obama's promise to "break his oath of office and begin enacting his own brand of law through executive decree."
"This is a wholesale violation of his oath of office and a disqualifying offense," said the Texas congressman.
Stockman also criticized Obama for refusing to admit "his policies have failed," and for advancing a plan for more taxes and spending that is a "blueprint for perpetual poverty."
The Tea Party-backed congressman had missed weeks of House votes and hadn't been campaigning in Texas for his race against Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas). After tweeting that people could "find out Monday" where he'd been, Stockman resurfaced this Monday to say he'd been on a House-sanctioned international trip and blasting reports saying had been missing.
Other Republican members had similar reactions to Obama's promise to do by executive order what he can't get done legislatively in Congress.
"Unfortunately, what I heard from President Obama tonight was hostility toward our foundational principles, condescension toward a co-equal branch of government, and a general aversion to common sense and bipartisanship," said Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho).
"The President's attempt to intimidate Congress by abusing executive power demonstrates a serious unwillingness to work with the coequal legislative branch of government," said Rep. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.).
Cornyn’s devotion to Lizard Murkowski is what enraged me.
Needless to say, I am deeply disappointed in the tone and content of tonights address.
After five years in office Obama refuses to admit his policies have failed. He instead demands we double down on the bitter class warfare that has left Americans jobless and hopeless.
Obamas plan for higher taxes and more spending is a blueprint for perpetual poverty. The last thing America needs is more of the Democrats class warfare that has left our economy a barren landscape.
Even worse, Obama has openly vowed to break his oath of office and begin enacting his own brand of law through executive decree. This is a wholesale violation of his oath of office and a disqualifying offense."
I’ll drink to that.
he needs to be impeached....but we all know that but which of our congresscritters will so much as raise their hand in protest....
THANK YOU....all I hear is lip service...if congress really was outraged..there would be impeachment proceedings ASAP
I forgot that - blood pressure going up just thinking about it
Boehner should pay attention to these guys and hold a press conference. The first thing he should announce is that any attempt by the white house to rule by fiat and executive order will be met with the immediate introduction of articles of impeachment against this imposter of a (P)resident. No real president would ever piss on our Constitution like this guy wants to do.
Boehner should do it and he should stick to it. He should welcome this fight because it’s what the Constitution demands for the speaker to do. That’s his job for God’s sake!
Then don’t think about it :). Just think about SOMEBODY force Cornyn into a runoff, and then we have two and a half more months to coalesce.
As it stands right now, Stockman is my guy in the primary.
Stockman in not my first choice, but he is a fighter and has called for the impeachment of Obama. He also refused to vote for Boehner as House Speaker.
Stockman is my Congressman, but I favor Stovall in the primary.
Seems like Cornyn had a bad month back then- that was when he came out with his endorsement of Snarlin Arlin Spector if I remember correctly.
See post #22.
Per Stockman... what 0 is doing is a...
DISQUALIFYING OFFENSE
Disqualifying, as in IMPEACH ABLE.
Thanks for the post, smoothsailing!
Hoosiermama, butterdezillion,
Pinging all y’all to this post :D
Just when my blood pressure was going down, you remind me of that! And you are correct. Grrrrrr.
It needs to go beyond that. Seriously.
...You da Rep!
BTW, we don't seem to be hearing the word..."unilateral", do we?
.
He did. He walked out. It’s a step forward. (Pun intended)
Apparently the Dallas Mourning News reporter can’t find Steve either. Someone needs to get these reporters new glasses. ;)
