President Barack Obama will announce on Tuesday he is issuing an executive order to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour for federal contract workers with new contracts, the White House said.

It’s within his authority to not have the executive branch sign contracts where people will get paid less than a certain amount. It’s not within his authority to change the federal minimum wage, and engage all the legal repercussions of violating that. It also shouldn’t invoke the wage multipliers.
Damn, I was hoping for $100/hour. I’m not in dollars, and would be delighted to pay off my debts with really, really cheap dollars.

I don’t blame Obama, I blame the RINO party directly. Obama is a crazed Marxist, terror supporting, America hating, constitution shredding, foreign born, twice unconstitutionally elected, homosexual drug taking psychopathic POTUS. You’re always going to have those kinds of people. But the reason he is getting away with it is because the RINO party does absolutely nothing. As you said, they are completely corrupt, so what we need is a 3rd party ASAP to fight these SOBs.
Not a heck of a lot. We’re talking the lower levels of janatorial staff, cafeteria workers, landscape workers.
On potential positive is that this may, probably will, have a negative impact on government employees. Government cafeterias are run very, very lean and the only way that the cafeteria contractors will be able to absorb this will be to raise their prices.
Gov employees will either have to pay the higher prices, or will have to compensate by bringing their lunch or eating elsewhere .... which should invoke a death spiral that puts gov cafeterias out of business. Forcing everyone to eat through other means.
I believe this is a huge deal. Many union contracts are tied to the minimum wage even though the current pay scale is above that level. If minimum wage increases by $1, many with union contracts will go up by $1.
So how many Federal employees actually make minimum wage? In other words, if a tree fell in the woods and no one was around to hear it, would it make a noise?
Exactly. This likely affects a few janitors. This is pure symbolism.
Are you talking private industry union contracts, public sector union contracts, or both?
This is not a raising of the general minimum wage. It’s an EO that sets a floor on what Federal contractors can pay their employees. I’d be very surprised if any private sector union contracts, or many public sector ones, were ties to the various GSA rate scales ...
Federal employees aren’t impacted by this. Only Federal contractors. And then only a very limited segment of them.
Yes, and only for new contracts. This is literally going to impact no one.

Not “purely”, but certainly “largely”.
The two categories of people who will take the hit on this are minimum wage Federal contract workers, who will see a loss of jobs, and Federal employees who will see a loss of services and options. Their work areas won’t be cleaned as often, maintence on the facilities they work in will take longer. They’ll have to pay more, or find other options, for meal taken at work.
Show of hands: anyone really have a problem with that? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?
