The Financial Times reports that more than 40-plus senior journalists have just been laid off at CNN and its sister network, HLN. Most of the layoffs occurred in November, were concentrated in Washington, Atlanta, and New York, and, according to CNN, mostly involved those already closing in on retirement.
One person fired, however, was a pregnant producer just two weeks away from giving birth.

A spokesperson told the Financial Times that around 100 new people will be added to the staff and that the network is not "abandoning news by any stretch of the imagination," but merely "expanding the definition of news."

Cut the high-salary staff - replace with entry level people at entry level prices
Not like it hasn’t been done before
Most of those let go....those “nearing retirement” were likely from an age when journalism actually meant something.
People who were actually trained to report reality rather
than spin opinion into news. The young crop neither knows nor cares that what they are doing isn’t journalism, what they are reporting isn’t news and that they are mere pawns.
Welcome to ObamaCare, kiddos. Now you’ll get to enjoy it up close. Enjoy that unemployment money thanks to Obama too. Hope he’s won your vote!
I could do all their jobs with an iPhone and a few Google bookmarks.
Understandable from the point of view of the lock step Marxist propaganda machine. Some of those relatively older ones might actually have been schooled in the classic tenets of journalism, such as trying to get the facts and printing them, regardless on one’s own personal biases or the agenda of the political party you like.
If CNN laid everyone off, who would notice?
CNN had 40 journalists, who knew? I thought they just had interns typing the NY Times into teleprompters.
As a reverse example, I'd be very happy to hear that Fox News fired Shepard Smith, Alan Combs, Geraldo, Wahn Williams, Bob Bitchel and a few others.
But really, I'd hold my judgment until I hear a list of names.
They were not doing their jobs anyway so who cares.
Apparently, there is no safe zone for used, PRESSITUTES!

That’s probably why they were laid off. Because they were acting like journalists. The fact that Candy Crowley didn’t get cut tells me that they really don’t want real journalists.
Journalists are not required for CNN’s new format . The last time I watched CNN was the First Gulf War
That there is double plus ungood grammar.
I call BS. CNN never had 40 senior journalists.
