President Obama has told Senate Democrats he expects Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to pass immigration reform this year, defying predictions the issue is dead for 2014.
Obama believes Republicans will feel politically vulnerable if they fail to advance the issue, a high priority among Hispanic voters, according to Democratic senators who met with the president this week.
Obama sees immigration reform as a source for optimism in what has otherwise shaped up as a tough year for Democrats. He predicted the House would pass something this year, said Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), who attended the meeting.
Obama cautioned senators to brace themselves for difficult negotiations with House Republicans later this year.
He said were then all going to have a challenging conversation, Kaine added. He said it was more likely than not the House would do something.
Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), the lead sponsor of the Senate-passed immigration bill, described Obama as cautiously optimistic after the meeting.
ADVERTISEMENT I think our Republican colleagues realize that to be blocking immigration reform is not good for them, Schumer added. Boehner has made several recent moves giving Obama and his Democratic allies hope, such as hiring Rebecca Tallent to serve as his new director of immigration policy. She previously worked for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a co-sponsor of the Senate immigration bill.
Boehner plans to unveil a set of Republican principles for immigration reform before Obamas Jan. 28 State of the Union address.

Bring back American jobs.
Don’t import more workers. Bring back jobs.
Jobs.
Well then, they are between a rock and a rock, working on being crushed rather than on extracting themselves from the crevice they are in.
The Chicago thugs have something on Boehner as potent as the file they have on Chief Justice Roberts. Otherwise, why would he lead the GOP to the political gallows by giving amnesty to millions of new Democrat voters?
Someone remind me again why I should vote Republican in November.
Only 3% of the American people consider “immigration reform” an issue. 97% do not. Why does the GOP consider it their number one issue? Talk about politicians being out of touch with the people. Republicans are clueless.
Because that is what their #1 source of corporate money is telling them.
The easiest thing is just to ignore the issue. That’s what Harry Reid does to everything that comes from the House. If you ignore an issue, it will go away.
The political campaigning for November begins In about 3 months. No Republican running for office would be craze to come out in support of amnesty. If Boehner can’t ram this issue throughout the house before the campaigning begins, the issue is dead.
As Joe Biden brilliantly put it: “A simple three-letter word... J-O-B-S!”

Apparently only what hispanics (supposedly) want matters.
The media is a bought and paid for arm of the state.
The GOP is riding “corporate money” directly to historic failure.
America needs to GROW.
America needs jobs. America needs American jobs.
Stop selling out GOP. Bring back jobs right here. Grow.
Stop selling out what had once been the most dynamic country on earth.
Bring back American jobs.
Right here. Bring jobs back home.

So tell me WHY would the Republicans consider hispanic non-citizens more important than American citizens who do vote in elections?
MY guess is Lobbyist’s money and blackmail from “0” and the Democrats. Add in the overwhelming vote fraud the Democrats control and the inconvenient ‘appearance’ that the GOPe is just another wing of the Democrat plantation.
All the better reason to primary Boehner's can out of office so the Chitown fascists don't have that leverage anymore.
Support FReeper Eric Gurr to oust John Boehner in OH-8
Also, press your Representative to NOT support Boehner for Speaker - or Ryan, either!
Until and unless the GOP removes its present leadership, it is just the slightly less liberal arm of the uniparty. Boehner is the litmus test. He stay and the Republicans throw away the November elections.
That is exactly the reason. What I find laughable is that corporate America is anticipating an influx of cheap labor, but once all these illegals realize how much the government takes in taxes and fees they won’t be working so cheap any more.
Wonder what blackmail they have on Boehner.
Last time I checked, Boehner only had one vote in the house same as any other Representative....
They are paid whores. It’s that simple.
Nonsense, they'll ignore the law just like they do now. They'll continue to work for cash, send their kids to public schools, and show up at emergency rooms because it is in their interest to do so. Uncle Sugar will continue to cater.
