Tom Donohue, president and CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce, gave his annual "State of American Business" speech and didn't pull any punches toward the Tea Party.
Claiming he wasn't "attacking" the Tea Party, going so far as claiming that they agree with many Tea Party positions, Donohue nevertheless made it clear which side of the GOP civil war he's on.
"In primaries and in the general election, we will support candidates who want to work within the legislative process to solve the nation's problems and who understand that business is not the problem, business is a big part of the solution," he said during his annual State of American Business address.
The Chamber is a political juggernaut that spends millions of dollars on television ads, and its endorsements are often decisive in congressional races.
The group reported more than $32 million in independent expenditures during the 2012 election cycle, making it one of the biggest political spenders in the country, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
But while the Chamber has long been an election force, it is looking to be more aggressive in spending money in party primaries.
That's thanks to last year's government shutdown, which exasperated business groups and other traditional allies of the GOP. Now groups like the Chamber are making plans to oppose Tea Party upstarts.

They’re also pimping common core because they want workers who function just well enough to follow orders without question.
Inside-The-Beltway money changers bump for later....
This organization is traitorous and unAmerican. Cheap labor is all they care about.
Hm. Sounds to me like he's throwing the gauntlet down on The GOP-e.
The national Chamber of Commerce ceased to represent the intrests of small business years ago. They depend on their funding from large corporations that do huge amounts of business with the government. Just follow the bucks and their political actions are easily understood.
I’m confused?
Isn’t that how the Tea Party functions as well...within the bounds of the legislative and Constitutional processes?
He makes it sound like we’re outside those boundaries, when in reality we are well within in them and know how to actually EXERCISE THOSE RIGHTS.
There are 2 ways to win... support your side.... and screw your opponent by throwing as much debris and rocks in his path to success.... Let’s find this guys personal favorite things and each do the latter..... OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Just because its name includes the word 'commerce' doesn't actually mean it is in favor of commerce, any more than 'Planned Parenthood' endorses parenthood or 'Southern Poverty Law Center' advocates rule of law.
Every communist dictatorship had People's or democratic or Republics as a part of their name, and in every case it was deception.
Marxism/socialism/communism/Progressivism are branches of the same false religion, opposed to the Lordship of Christ and inspired by Satan. All Satanic movements lie to win. It is their nature.
So, as the US Chamber of Commerce leans left, it makes perfect sense for them to go against the very principles they once stood for, while using their previous reputation to deceive the unwary.
The Chamber of Commerce is the front organization for companies that profit from Big Gov.
They don't care if other taxpayers are being fleeced or if the country is being run into the ground as long as they get their subsidies and special breaks and protections from the Feral Government.
> “That’s thanks to last year’s government shutdown, which exasperated business groups and other traditional allies of the GOP. Now groups like the Chamber are making plans to oppose Tea Party upstarts.”
The shutdown “exasperated” which business groups? The ones feeding at the federal trough? I think YES.
They want the illegals legalized. They want the permanent underclass as servants and low skill/low wage workers
Another elite communists club of fools.
> “I wish the very rich in this country would decide whether they are capitalists or socialists.”
They are neither. They are fascists.
Much of big business survives due to its partnership with big government. The last thing they want is free market competition.
Ring-a-ding-ding!!! We have a winner!
It would only take one good Conservative Term as POTUS to undo everything
the Rats have done in the last 40-Years. It will take Hubris and Balls
to go up against the DC machine. That someone must be willing to accept
all the flack that comes with it. Not GOP weak knee hacks like McCain and Romney.
Donahue is another perfumed fop! A bucket carrying piss boy!
If you live in GA the best revenge is a vote for Paul Broun for senator.
