They used to hang horse thieves now they elect them mayor. As many know, New York Citys new commandant, Bill de Blasio, has sworn that one of his first acts upon taking office will be to ban Central Parks iconic horse-drawn carriages. He claims that forcing horses to work in downtown Manhattan is inhumane, but is he really just kowtowing to a big real-estate developer who heavily supported his campaign?
Interestingly, there was a time when de Blasio was more blasé about these animal-rights concerns. In fact, when he had the chance as a City Council member to support legislation banishing NYCs hansom cabs in 2007, he balked. Now, though, he leaves no doubt as to his position. As NBC New York wrote:

Central Park is downtown? This guy needs a geography lesson.
As is always the case - if you want the truth, follow the MONEY!!!
Story alludes to a Federal felony. Oh well.
I posted previously that I wonder who stands to benefit from the electric powered vehicles he intends as replacement.

All ya’ need to know. Do the math.
The stables are across from the Jacob Javitz Convention Center.
If forcing horses to work in an urban environment is inhumane, is forcing humans to work in an urban environment also inhumane?
Without going into the link. Isn’t this about the location of a horse barn/ stable located on or near a key piece of property intended for “renewal” owned by a key contributer ?
My my Shades of Jimmy Walker.Do they still shoot horses ? Great beginings for NYC’s new mayor ! Murdering some poor dumb animals and calling it progressive.
Goodbye Nooo Yawk, hello glue factory.
Good question. I get the feeling his entire mayoralty is going to be for him a series of lessons about unintended consequences.
Indeed. Bloomberg the Menshevik! Hah!
All horse$h++ will now be produced by City Hall.
