DAILY CURRANT – Colorado is reconsidering its decision to legalize recreational pot following the deaths of dozens due to marijuana overdoses.

According to a report in the Rocky Mountain News, 37 people were killed across the state on January 1st, the first day the drug became legal for all adults to purchase. Several more are clinging onto life in local emergency rooms and are not expected to survive.

“It’s complete chaos here,” says Dr. Jack Shepard, chief of surgery at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, “I’ve put five college students in body bags since breakfast and more are arriving every minute.

You know you’re in trouble when your heart surgeon in Colorado walks into your room and say “Hey dude, like you got any munchies? What? Hahahhaha”

One of the those victims was 29-year-old Jesse Bruce Pinkman, a former methamphetamine dealer from Albuquerque who had recently moved to Boulder to establish a legal marijuana dispensary.

Pinkman was partying with friends when he suffered several seizures and a massive heart attack which ultimately proved to be fatal. Toxicology reports revealed that marijuana was the only drug present in his system.

“This is just a terrible tragedy,” says his friend Peter, “Jesse was trying to go legit and now this happens? I guess drugs really are as dangerous as they say.”

Probably from the resultant house fires as they put the frozen pizzas in the oven and then fell asleep.

The only way people in Colorado die from smoking pot is if they fall asleep in the snow and freeze to death.

Stoned morons never get behind the wheel of a car and kill others? They do and it will happen far more frequently with more losers inhaling.

Yes, satire. Pot has never been known to kill anyone unless they smoke and drive and/or include other substances. Although habitual use can decrease ambition and can be a gateway drug on occasion (I've seen it in my youth). But kill someone? Hardly.

While I'm still on the fence about pot legalization, the restrictions against legitimate doctors prescribing it for cancer patients and other ailments is wrong. They can describe every hard-core narcotic that exists, including morphine, but not marijuana?

Doesn't make sense. It can alleviate some symptoms and increase appetite, which certain illnesses benefit from the extra nutrients when a sick person eats, not to mention just feeling better.

The movie “Reefer Madness” just didn’t go far enough in its warnings. :=)

Studies have shown that marijuana triggers a psychosis gene present in one of four people. And, multiple studies link pot to paranoia.

Only idiots can't grasp that more people high on anything diminishes the quality of life for all.

As a matter of fact, most pot smokers would tell you they are more aware while driving. My guess is you don’t have much experience in this...?

If they told you they could fly out a window, would you believe that, too?

Marijuana has been linked to auto fatalities. That's a fact.

A Risk Gene for Cannabis Psychosis

Nov. 14, 2012 — The ability of cannabis to produce psychosis has long been an important public health concern. This concern is growing in importance as there is emerging data that cannabis exposure during adolescence may increase the risk of developing schizophrenia, a serious psychotic disorder. Further, with the advent of medical marijuana, a new group of people with uncertain psychosis risk may be exposed to cannabis.
