A&E ran a bunch of "A Duck Dynasty" shows on Sunday. I finally sat down and watched a couple of them.
First, it is hilarious. You got these "ZZ Top bearded guys" with beautiful wives, a successful business and a wonderful sense of humor. Uncle Si is the greatest "TV uncle" since Uncle Charlie in "My 3 sons"! That fellow SI is a superstar!
Second, Grandpa Phil, the man in the middle of the controversy, looks like the kind of guy that you want to go hunting with. His wife, Miss Kay, is exactly the kind of woman you want cooking your next holiday meal. She loves dogs and spoils her grandchildren.
Third, the brothers, or the guys who run the business, are funny and treat their employees very well. Wonder how many people watching this show wished that they had a boss like "brother CEO"?
Fourth, I saw the Christmas play episode. We enjoyed the family putting a Nativity play at church and treating their friends to food and gifts.
There are a lot of people like the Robertsons in the south, probably everywhere else too. They are good family people who contribute a lot to the nation, from creating jobs to keeping our traditions intact.

Thank you. That may just explain it.
BTW, my youngest daughter was a fan of Friends so several years ago, via netflix, we watched every season in the space of a few months. An interesting thing happened as the characters progressed through the seasons, and it exposed why the show was doomed to go any more than a decade: The stupid mistakes a 20 year old makes can be used as a basis for high comedy in a sitcom. But when those same characters are making the same kind of mistakes at 30, it’s hard to spin it into comedy, rather than tragedy.
I don’t have a TV, so I do not watch these programs, but saw a segment on youtube. They are not all that exciting, but they do exude common sense with a lot of humor and wit. I feel that the country loves them because they take us back to a time when this WAS America. EVen more sophisticated among us can enjoy and take heart that there is still hope for America. It’s a reminder that not all is lost yet. I know most young people today are NOT being raised in church settings, so for some of them, it is probably interesting to see Christianity portrayed in such a way.
And his alma mater is Louisianan Tech, not LSU.
Grace, I notice that you rarely use quotation marks around comments from others that you paste into your posts. It’s really confusing, as it takes a few seconds to realize that you didn’t write the words you copy, and then respond to.
It’s also simple courtesy to use quotation marks, or italicize others comments when reproducing them. Those words belong to them.
Rooster’s right, it’s the South.
I liked the one when they blew up the beaver mound.
And maybe take me catch some frogs. ...not gigging, catch 'em bare-handed.
...then can we shoot some doves, ducks & pigs. ...not necessarily on the same day.
32 acres and all that fun! ... This Yuppie is jealous.
PS. Can your wife cook? ...a prayer & good supper are always a good way to end a hard day.
Have you listened do Bill Engvall? He makes a point that profanity does not need to be used to be funny; he uses none in his routines.
They really outght to start a spin-off show with their neighbor "Mountain Man".
My wife quit her job as of last Friday. And cooking is one of her many strong points. She may actually do some cheesecake cooking for some local restaurants.
We have lots of doves. Truth be told, we really can hunt squirrel, rabbit, turkey, doves, cood and deer without ever leaving the property. Lots of frogs and turtles, too. Haven’t seen a copperhead yet, though.
Nope, I haven’t. It’s something about the “stand-up” format and style, I guess. Even going back to the days of George Carlin and Richard Pryor... they never amused me, never made me laugh. I never ‘connected’ to any of it. So, it’s not just the sleaze and profanity (although that just makes things all the worse, and more off-putting).
True story:
About a decade ago we found a small, very aggressive snake in our living room. Not recognizing it, I eventually got it into a bucket. Our neighbor was a science teacher and always doing something with animals and the classroom, baby turtles found in the pool, etc.
I took it over to her and offered it for school or one of her kids.
She exclaimed "THAT'S A COPPERHEAD!" She forgave my ignorance. But there is nothing like offering your neighbor's kids a poisonous snake to play with.
I’ve only watched one episode. They were tearing out beaver dams and talking about how destructive beavers are. Given my ongoing battle with beavers, I thought these guys are great.
They end each episode with a family prayer before supper.
It is a real modern-day 60's style family sitcom.
There is no cussing, no alcohol, not even beer at the fish fry. With Christian values demonstrated each episode.
That is the allure, something we don't see on TV any longer.
No alcohol? That’s funny.
Phil had an alcoholic past before he found Christ. The younger son had a drug problem before the family intervened. Those items got between them and God. I haven’t heard them talk about it being wrong for others, but it doesn’t appear to be part of their life.
That would make sense.
Do you ever get nosebleeds up there on that high horse?
