MSNBCs Chris Matthews took a break from his nightly Hardball tirade to grace the set of Morning Joe to unload on the GOP for opposing extending unemployment benefits and increasing the minimum wage.
Appearing on December 20, the Hardball host proclaimed that Republicans dont like these bums and proceeded to call Republicans these racists for opposing liberal policies on unemployment benefits and raising the minimum wage
Chris Matthews: Youre Racist If Youre Against Raising The Minimum Wage
Matthews began his Friday morning rant by proclaiming:
There's a conflict on the right, hard right, nasty right. If you make fun of people for being unemployed or being underemployed and you get food stamps and stuff like that. Help them make more money. Are you against the working poor, people catching the bus at 6:30 in the morning and work 40-50 hours a week? Are they bad guys or good guys? They’re good guys. Treat them like good guys.
In Matthews’ distorted view of reality, refusing to extend unemployment benefits -- which max out at 99 weeks in many states -- is racist and that you view those individuals as lazy “bums.” Rather than looking at the plethora of data that shows that extending unemployment benefits hinders job creation, Matthews would rather throw extreme statements at Republicans, going so far as to use the typical MSNBC line of calling the GOP racist and bigoted for opposing liberal policies.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: See theres a problem here. Theyre good guys. Treat them like good guys. You can't make enemies of all the working poor and the poor and say we don't like the bums or the ones with fancy fingernails or whatever the hell theyre talking about these days, these racists. Or youre going to help the people out that are trying to work and you got to take sides with the worker bees. Okay, you may not have a great education but you're going to work every day. And you're showing up. You're doing your job. Were going to give you a decent wage. Thats a good value for Republicans.
What a dumbass but we already knew that. All raising the minimum wage does is remove entry level jobs.
Matthews is someone who actually deserves to be on the receiving end of the “knockout game”.
If Matthews was my employee, I would spend double his salary to drive him away if I couldn’t fire him.
“Thats really what the word has come to mean.”
You’re correct. It’s astonishing that anybody can accuse anyone of racism with a straight face. It’s become a cliche. There was an earlier posting about the most annoying word in the language. It was “whatever.” I disagree. I think it’s “racist.”
I had a black woman butt into my conversation and say, “I agree with you, but you’re racist to say it.” I felt so pissed off that she was race-carding me I really wanted to retort. At the same time I felt physically ill; nauseated by her smug I’ve-won-by-racecarding-you attitude.
In the final analysis, an employee’s wage has to be reflective of how productive he is. If a person costs the company $10 an hour (neglecting benefits and other employee mandates) but produces only $9 per hour worth of value for the company, he is useless to the company. In fact he is less than useless. Arbitrary wages that ignore the economic value contributed hurt the economy, not help it.
Chris : " Only racists would block these two bills in the Senate.
This is like the return of Jim Crowe.
They want to starve persons of color so they dont have enough energy to vote next year"
What Chris Matthews really means is that if one dares to disagree with him on anything, any subject then they are an all out KKK hateful racist.
I’m surprised that Matthews hasn’t had a stroke.
I’ve been a proud Chris Matthews racist for years.
Matthews likes to use the race card almost as much as Jesse Jackson and race-baiter Al Sharpton. Maybe Matthews is ashamed of his race??
I stopped by the local (Memphis) Back Yard Burgers to pick up supper for the family last night. The Amish working there had things soooo effed up and were pissing off all the customers cause they couldn’t take the simplest order without messing it up. Another customer looked at me with disbelief and I said “and they want $15.00 an hour”.
I rarely, if ever, wish bad things to befall people that I despise. In Crissie’s case, though I’ll make an exception to that practice. He’s earned it.
You're racist if you think we need low-wage Mexican labor to do jobs because that huge percentage of unemployed black youth can't or won't do them.
He seems to have anger issues. That’s not healthy.
I guess I am RACIST! So what?
It’s just disgusting how libs make OUR arguments; OUR opinions for us! Completely untrue, and then turn around and BASH us for having these opinions!
I just cannot stand dishonest people like this.
Actually, there is more empirical evidence that the Minimum Wage depresses employment of the least skilled. Since blacks on average tend to be less skilled, there is much more support for the accusation that people FOR the minimum wage are racist!
Let us leave aside the minimum wage for a moment.
Chris Matthews states that it is racist to oppose extending unemployment benefits.
Yet, curiously -- in a largely black area -- when I have gone to the UI office, it was mostly white people.
So, Chris is stating the GOP is racist against .... white people?
And I luv it when you call me that name, Crissy.
Pretty sure that Matthews is the product of anal sex.
Many years ago such a comment would be found on certain public toilet walls. Ain’t the internet great?
