I perform maintenance at a school district which recently had a construction bond upgrade. We have mountains of burned out compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL) which are suppose to last for 7-10 years, but rarely last more than a few months, and at $8 bucks a pop, it's expensive.

The CFLs contain Uptonite.

Sucks eggs.

They’re supposed to be turned on for several minutes before they work, and, those quick on/offs, like the peeing in middle of night bathroom trips, are not good for them...causes them to burn our faster...I guess we’re supposed to have Prius-driving libs come over to our house to pick up our used CFLs...

Anyone posting any websites where we can buy like 12 or 24 60-watter incandescents mailorder? Canadian or other?

I bought a whole bunch and I use them in the cooler darker months like this(for the the warm yellow color), in the warm months I use the new ones.

Just a point of interest to others:
I switched from CFLs to LEDs.
The CFLs gave me bad headaches.
The LEDs give off a lovely white light unlike the Yellow light from CFLs and filament bulbs.

I’ll be switching to LEDs after Christmas.

The old bulbs suck, they use more power than their worth. They’re good if you want to keep chickens warm but that’s about it.

My biggest concern is my dining room where i have a dimmer switch. Florescents don't dim.

The 40 and 60-watt light bulbs sell more than any other light bulbs, but they are being phased out as their incandescent 75 and 100-watt brethren were phased out at the beginning of 2013.

Maybe the 40 and 60-watt light bulbs sell more than any other light bulbs because the 75 and 100-watt incandescents have already been outlawed by our oppressive federal government and the CFL's and LEDs are much more expensive.

If you want a clear example of why there isn';t a lot of difference between the democrat party and the republican party when it comes to overbearing, Nanny State, Big Government this inane law is it.

Before BIG BROTHER George Bush signed this outrageous law, we could buy incandescents of all sizes locally at 3 or 4 for $1.00.

The law does declare some exemptions. For example “colored” bulbs are exempt. More importantly “Rough Service” bulbs are also exempt as are “coated” bulbs for use around food.

Bought a bunch of the CFL 60 and they are shi!. Turn on and they all take time to warm up to get to a sick piece of light. Replaced all of them with the incandescents and back to really living again. And they do not seem to last any longer than my good old incandescents. Hope that once the law changes back that there will be a foreign manufacture that will make them.

A new cottage industry arises, importing illegal light bulbs from Canada in the dark of night...along with the illegal toilets that only require one flush.

I guess we’ll all have to buy the new 38 and 57 watt incandescent bulbs after the new year starts. (I’ve seen various wattage incandescent bulbs in the 70-99 watt range for sale lately.)

A couple of days ago there was an article about this on FR and I didn't know the bulbs would stop on Jan. 1. I immediately ordered a bunch of regular 40s and 60s, but the most concern were the clear 40s for ceiling fans. There is a fan with 4 of those bulbs near my chair and I must have that lighting and those bulbs stay on from the time I come downstairs until I go to bed so they go out fairly quickly. I looked for the ceiling 40 bulbs and they are not easy to find. The cheapest was at Walmart and they would only let me buy 5 cards of 2 on the net. I'm going to see if I can buy more cards today from them. I don't know if they were actually out when I couldn't buy more than 5 or if they were allowing you to only buy 5.
