40, 60-Watt Incandescents Out by 2014
Breitbart ^ | Dec. 15, 2013 | William Bigelow

Posted on 12/16/2013 5:52:04 AM PST by PROCON

If you want a 40 or 60-watt incandescent light bulb, you’d better get one by Christmas, because they will not be manufactured after January 1, 2014 and will be increasingly scarce. The 40 and 60-watt light bulbs sell more than any other light bulbs, but they are being phased out as their incandescent 75 and 100-watt brethren were phased out at the beginning of 2013.

....look into how many Senators and Congressmen have stock in the new bulbs.......soon the GREEN people will be demanding the government oversee the proper waste disposal of the new bulbs......at a fee or course

You are right there, they are not cheap to buy.
But for medical reasons it has been worth it.
They have been in for nearly a year, so we shall see how long they last.
I've been told by a lighting engineer that the power regulator in the base is the first bit to fail.
Plus they give off heat unlike CFLs.

CFL's get pretty hot too. The difference is that the power supply in the base of the LED is what gets hot, and it is the glass tube of the CFL that gets hot. For equivalent light output, the LED uses less power, so there should be less heat as well.

My biggest concern is my dining room where i have a dimmer switch. Florescents don't dim.

There are dimmable CFLs and LEDs on the market.

The CFLs contain Uptonite.

What's "Uptonite"?

"Oh, I dunno, maybe have a few beers, watch a little TV, What about you??"

The law does declare some exemptions. For example “colored” bulbs are exempt. More importantly “Rough Service” bulbs are also exempt as are “coated” bulbs for use around food.

FWIW, when I’m walking from one room to another I use a flashlight. I replace those batteries every so often anyway, so might as well use them. It saves on the use rate of the dozen or so 100 watters I’ve stockpiled. <^..^>

LED’s are dimmable, but not with the old style incandescent bulb dimmers. So yes, the bulbs are expensive and you are paying money to replace the dimmers, too.

That said, I'm a fan and have been replacing incandescent with LED’s at home and in the office as the old bulbs go. The prices are starting to come down quite a bit from a year ago.

Also, I have found ONE good use for the CFL bulbs. Outside, on my formerly gas burning street lamp. The bulb stays on 24/7 and one lasted a couple of years. The ones that I have used that are turned on and off do NOT last as advertised, and I don't like the look of the bulbs OR the light they produce.

Correct and was the same when the 100w was phased out. But they do cost more but are available.

I was in Walmart the other day and they had 8 packs of 60w for something over $4.
One of the mfgrs says they have enough in supply to last until mid 2014.

That is what i thought it should be.
However...

we are on 240V. If that makes a difference.
Must go. :)

Thanks to Uppity Upton my entire attic is stocked with 100 watt bulbs (I have a detached, unheated garage, and I can get in my car and drive to Ohio before the CFL’s come up to full brightness in the wintertime).

I just bought 10 - 24 packs of Sylvania (American made) 60 Watt 130 v bulbs at Amazon for a cost of 40.63 cents per bulb. Free shipping brought this cost down to what it is.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQPXFK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The reviews for this particular bulb are just so so but I am prepared for the shrinkage at that cost.

The Fed gov SUCKS ass!!!

Bought a bunch of the CFL 60 and they are shi!. Turn on and they all take time to warm up to get to a sick piece of light. Replaced all of them with the incandescents and back to really living again. And they do not seem to last any longer than my good old incandescents. Hope that once the law changes back that there will be a foreign manufacture that will make them.

Thanks for the reality check.

If we are ever going to be able to throw off the shackles of our Federal Control Government, we have to be able to objectively hold each politician accountable for their actions and inactions, regardless of claimed party affiliation.

After all, it was GWB who gave us TARP - - - - .

BTW, “both” political parties have shifted so far left, that the Republican top leaders in the House and Senate, Boehner and McConnell, have the same values as 1950’s Democrats: approve all increases in spending bills, enlarge the size of the Federal Government, and party hard.
