China has condemned Shinzo Abe, the Japanese prime minister, for "maliciously slandering" its self-proclaimed air defence zone, ratcheting up the war of words between the neighbours over Beijing's annexation of the skies over a group of disputed islands.
Abe told a news conference that China's recent announcement of the air defence identification zone over disputed islands in the East China Sea was "unjustly violating the freedom of aviation over the high seas" and demanded Beijing rescind it.
In the most bitter remarks so far in the dispute, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei defended the zone, which has triggered protests from Japan, the United States and South Korea.
"We express strong dissatisfaction with Japan's leader using an international occasion to maliciously slander China," Hong said in a statement seen on the ministry website on Sunday.

Chinese love to play the victim.
“No more American blood for foreign wars.”
Cindy baby, where ya been all this time?
Yeah! Fight the power man.
Yes. What Abe said is very true. It is good to have leaders who speak out so clearly.
Cindy Sheehan?
Yeah! Fight the power man.
What’s that supposed to mean?
It means you sound like a 60’s hippie or other sort of leftist with the “ no blood for...” line.
Like your down with the movement, man.
It means you sound like a 60s hippie or other sort of leftist with the no blood for... line.
You’re full of yourself. I was in Vietnam at the time. Where were you, ‘man’?
Haven’t seen an hr

You smokin’ some weed, man?
So was John Kerry and a lot of lefties.
Not saying you are, just that you are saying lefty cliches.
Wouldn’t you rather be told direct like this than not?
I was in kindergarten as if argument by authority means something.
And i like the hr in replies.
Not saying you are, just that you are saying lefty cliches.
I’ll add one: No blood for oil. (In other words, drill, baby, drill....become independent of foreign oil).
“And i like the hr in replies”.
What does that mean?
Oh look we have someone that wants their sons and daughters to die for vague goals and reasons!
You’re right.
Great line from a great movie.
‘The reality for [Britain] is that the [USSR] is in fact the dominant power in Europe. The United States must decide if it wishes to continue its political and military involvement in the area. Both are risky and expensive. Americans must consider just how those costly commitments will benefit the United States. Eventually the [Europeans] will have to achieve a consensus for themselves as they had been doing it for thousands of years.’
Thank God your father’s generation didn’t think like this. Not that there weren’t shills back then—from paid agents to useful idiots—preaching the cost of defense and the benevolence of the Soviet order. But they got short shrift. Men still remembered the lessons of the Second World War: that projecting weakness invites aggression, and threats to democracy must be nipped in the bud before they spiral out of control. As a result, we managed to keep half of Europe out from under the boot of the tyrant, and grind the Soviets down until Reagan administered the coup de grace.
Even the feckless Obama seems to have realized, in his half-hearted and faltering way, that we might as well pack it up if we allow China—a China with no power progression of any consequence—to bully our Asian allies. And since that country is run by bean-counters, albeit patient ones, they’ll back down. For now.
I politely do not agree.
The Chinese are a dangerous country. They will exploit any opportunity they have to gain more power in the region.
How does “free trade” benefit America if all the jobs are in China?
We need to bring back jobs to America.
We are buying everything, from China. We are making China into a nation of power, which even we will be unable to do anything to stop.
America needs industry.
Bring back American jobs now.
Because we will lose our trading partners and allies for 1/2 the Earth which will be an enormous economic loss, plus our security situation will be perilous as we are a Pacific nation, plus our allies would become potential enemies. Little countries like Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, etc.
And as for let them defend themselves, it’s America I’m worried about. It is better to fight the Chinese there than here. For us.
Good points. we’re in a hell of a mess.
