China has condemned Shinzo Abe, the Japanese prime minister, for "maliciously slandering" its self-proclaimed air defence zone, ratcheting up the war of words between the neighbours over Beijing's annexation of the skies over a group of disputed islands.
Abe told a news conference that China's recent announcement of the air defence identification zone over disputed islands in the East China Sea was "unjustly violating the freedom of aviation over the high seas" and demanded Beijing rescind it.
In the most bitter remarks so far in the dispute, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei defended the zone, which has triggered protests from Japan, the United States and South Korea.
"We express strong dissatisfaction with Japan's leader using an international occasion to maliciously slander China," Hong said in a statement seen on the ministry website on Sunday.

Is anyone in the administration concerned about us going to war in Asia? Is any reporter asking questions?
The reality for Japan is that China is in fact the dominant power in East Asia. The United States must decide if it wishes to continue its political and military involvement in the area. Both are risky and expensive. Americans must consider just how those costly commitments will benefit the United States. Eventually the Asians will have to achieve a consensus for themselves as they had been doing it for thousands of years.
No more American blood for foreign wars. If the Chinese decide to bomb us, or an Asian country gets pissed and sinks a vessel, then okay I’m all for it. But let them handle it on their own if it goes south. Yes I am also all for breaking our “defense pacts” if this were to happen.

Of course what Abe said is both true and is the whole point of the Chinese actions. You have got real power when your provocations are accepted as the natural order of things. China has judged us and found us lacking resolve. Our allies such as Japan will suffer. Are the Philippines next . . .

You are thinking defensively.
All the U.S. needs to do is get the monkey of socialism off its back. Then it can easily afford the military capacity to defend Asia and contain China.
The benefit to the U.S., and the entire world, is free trade.
Let all those who benefit from free trade in and out of Asia do what’s necessary to keep it flowing.

Highly unlikely. Japan and South Korea would be the only countries that wouldn’t topple like dominos, but even they would fall eventually, even if you discount nuclear weapons. Can’t see Burma or Thailand putting up much of a fight. China has the largest standing army in the world. Not to mention they essentially have control of the fourth largest standing army, the Norks. Send those bullet-bags into the South to soften them before dealing the death blow.

A) Weak militarily
B) Too poor to buy all those Chinese goods
Then its back to the old fashioned methods of resource procurement, except unlike in the past, this time China is the most powerful Asian nation.
