A cross atop Mount Soledad in California is an unconstitutional religious display on government land and must come down, a federal judge in San Diego ruled late Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Larry Burns ordered the cross, which honors veterans, must be removed within 90 days -- a decision that could result in the case being sent back to the U.S. Supreme Court. Burns immediately stayed his order pending an expected appeal.

It isn't art in the unfortunate modern sense: it does not reflect the personality of the author and it is not elaborately done. It is meant what is looks like: a memorial, perhaps a cenotaph. It has to be a plain cross.
Good question. No, for now they won't. This is why: theirs is not, at this point, a consistent atheistic movement; if it were, this country would have a revolution. Instead this is judicial sabotage: take down soft targets. A prominent cross on government land is a soft target, like an ice cream parlor is a soft target for a bomb-thrower. Eventually, the soft targets will be taken down one by one: prayer in school, pledge of allegiance, public prayer of any kind, Ten Commandment monuments in courts, etc. By then the public will be anesthetized to these takedowns and then systematic cleanup of Christian expression will take place, -- a couple of decades from now.
Not long ago they were eulogizing Mandela. They had a good reason: he pioneered the politics of sabotage in South Africa, and lived long enough to see that country destroyed. We have something similar going on here.
This is telling us that what we perceive as defenders of the Constitution, individual liberty, and religious freedom are not that at all. The American ruling class at this point does not have American national interest as its own, across the both parties at power.
Probably not; where the AD designation is necessary -- and in reference to modern events it is not, -- it has been replaced with something like "CE".
The Left Wing never accepts an outcome they don’t like, and here it is again; apparently we have a legal system that ratches left obligingly.
Somehow, in all these years, nobody in the town has alerted the proper liberal police. Yet.
But is Mt. Soledad a “national park” in the technical sense, like Yellowstone? It is called “Mt. Soledad Natural Park”. The Left’s argument is however, that specifics of the ownership do not matter because it is land owned by some level of government.
You are making an argument from reason. In those matters, we have the judicial class playing its game: court to court, jurisdiction to jurisdiction till such time that the desired outcome is achieved. Then the controversy is believed resolved. Reason does not enter this process except ornamentally.
Who, do you think, will be doing the impeaching and the installing, anyone you know?
Eh, no. I know what the Cross is. Jesus Christ died on it. That is the symbol of Christianity, not of any false religion people invented over the ages.
The judge is a Bush appointee, by the way, so count me skeptical that that would accomplish much.
The squad truck has already been dispatched for you.
I don't know if there has been another cross, but every cross is a target, obviously, for they all mean the same.
Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, Corpus Christi, Santa Fe, St. Louis, etc. would all have to change their names.
It's getting very close to that time! Lock & load!
Ouch. Bush I or II?
Brand a cross into the judge’s face and if he wants it removed, he’s free to cut off his head.
Hee hee hee hee
Let's turn the tables on the federal oligarchy and return power to the STATES where it rightly belongs!
The Convention of states will bring up amendments to be able to:
1) RECALL Federal and Supreme court justices via STATE legislatures
2)Set TERM LIMITS on Federal and Supreme court justices.
3) Impeach and remove Federal and Supreme Court justices (I think that might already be possible, but if not it is definitely another option the state convention could vote on.)
And note, this is NOT a constitutional convention to rewrite the constitution. It is a convention OF the states BY the states, to amend the constition to bring power BACK TO THE STATES! (Any amendment proposed must be ratified by 3/4 of state legislatures and there is no way states would vote to add any amendment that would give increased power to Federal government.)It can be used to add an amendment which nullifies a previous amendment! (17th amendment for example)
Forbes.com: "Big Political Story of 2016 Will not be Obama" What could be bigger news than a presidential race? According to Ralph Benko, journalist and contributor to Forbes.com, a Convention of States is going to be the top story in two years' time. In his article, Benko describes the Mt. Vernon Assembly and its importance to the history of the United States. He mentions the Convention of States Project as one of the primary leaders in the Article V movement, and praises the state legislators who kicked-started the process in Mt. Vernon. He concludes:
The big political news of 2016 will not be about the presidential race. It will be about how nearly 100 citizen-legislators began a process that restored liberty to America. The big story is bigger than presidential politics.
The big story is Constitutional. It is a story about how liberty-minded Americans such as Sen. David Long, of Indiana, Rep. Chris Kopenga, of Wisconsin, Rep. Matt Huffman, of Ohio, Rep. Gary Banz, of Oklahoma, Sen. Caryn Tyson, of Kansas, Rep. Yvette Herrell, of New Mexico, and Sen. Kevin Lundberg, of Colorado (co-chairs of a coordinate Article V Caucus), and other state legislators such as Del. Jim LeMunyon, of Virginia, began the process of restoring liberty to our sweet land. and the beat goes one....I thought the Cross was going to stay up and the case was over and done
No, I agree with you, no one in DC is going to do it. But I believe the wrath of the people is much more likely to be given vent via our state legislators. They are much, much easier to kick out and replace than US Senators and Reps. They are closer to us, and should fear us more (fear in the political sense.)
It is also in their interests to restore the balance of power back to the states. See my post 98
