SNIP
The atmosphere was totally relaxed I didnt see anything shocking in my viewfinder, president of the US or not. We are in Africa.
I later read on social media that Michelle Obama seemed to be rather peeved on seeing the Danish prime minister take the picture. But photos can lie. In reality, just a few seconds earlier the first lady was herself joking with those around her, Cameron and Schmidt included. Her stern look was captured by chance.
I took these photos totally spontaneously, without thinking about what impact they might have. At the time, I thought the world leaders were simply acting like human beings, like me and you. I doubt anyone could have remained totally stony faced for the duration of the ceremony, while tens of thousands of people were celebrating in the stadium. For me, the behaviour of these leaders in snapping a selfie seems perfectly natural. I see nothing to complain about, and probably would have done the same in their place. The AFP team worked hard to display the reaction that South African people had for the passing of someone they consider as a father. We moved about 500 pictures, trying to portray their true feelings, and this seemingly trivial image seems to have eclipsed much of this collective work.

It was interesting to see politicians in a human light because usually when we see them it is in such a controlled environment. Maybe this would not be such an issue if we, as the press, would have more access to dignitaries and be able to show they are human as the rest of us.
I confess too that it makes me a little sad we are so obsessed with day-to-day trivialities, instead of things of true importance.

This reads like one of those forced apologies in communist countries, except in the West the media dupes are so brainwashed they reflexively do it on their own.
George W. Bush had done this.
“I’m sorry for making Dear Leader look bad.”
Poor guy, he’s hoping to avoid an IRS audit.
The “selfie” was done because O knew he could. He’s always being photographed and he knows it. He was thumbing his nose.
That was my take also. Three months from now this reporter/photographer will be sweeping the streets in DC I bet.
No worries, mate...Obama does a fine job of making HIMSELF look bad.
Off to the re-education camp you go, komrad.
From the fake sign language interpreter to our fake Pres--ent to the fake accolades heaped on the deceased.
Right. Like all those other photos of her from yesterday, all looking like she was going to open a good old-fashioned can of African-American Whupass on Barry when they got back to the hotel.
The only picture of her I saw smiling is when she was laughing it up with another woman.
Is it possible that, deep down inside, Michelle actually hates men?
Well I wonder how long before he got his “marching orders” to apologize from the Spite House.
- All this for a damn fag?
".....while tens of thousands of people were celebrating in the stadium."
Wouldn't "mourning" be a more appropriate word?
Pictures of GWB and Bono weren’t exactly the expressions one would expect at a funeral service or memorial service or whatever the heck it was. Except for the attire of the “guests”, there could have been a soccer match going on instead of praise for a deceased (AHEM!) “great man”. I’m ticked that GWB even went when he didn’t attend Lady Thatcher’s funeral. Would like to hear the explanation for that.
After the election ... um ... uh ... I have more 'flexibility'.
Even the Wookie is totally pissed off at the juvenile low class choom gang banger ....
While his smiles might not reflect well (although some of us smiled when the old communist died), her scowls look even worse.
First off, if there’s a whole article about 1 mere picture, then its a big deal. So let’s call it “The Photo” from now on.
This guy can blab on all he wants, but the fact is, “The Photo” will now forever be associated with the Obamas.
It’s out there, and everyone with functioning eyes can see what’s going on there. You don’t think every man and every woman on this planet know exactly what Michelle’s look means?
“The Photo” alone will cost Obama another 5 points overnite.
Now the WORLD knows why the White Hut won’t let the Press take pictures of Nero. They are forced to use those “Approved” staged photos.
Those that are spur of the moment show the Pentulent Child for what he is.
Valerie is not happy.
so true... and it is safe to say, President Bush would never have done that... he simply has class... something that was cultivated in him... it cannot be bought... it cannot be faked... the Obamas do not have it...
