The Maryland official who directly oversaw the rollout of Maryland’s health insurance exchange resigned Friday amid continuing technical problems that have hampered the state’s online enrollment efforts.
After an emergency session Friday night, the board of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange accepted the resignation of Rebecca Pearce, its executive director, and thanked her in a statement for working “tirelessly and with tremendous dedication” for more than two years.
.....the state is still wrestling with stubborn technological problems, posting weak enrollment numbers even as other states have signed up thousands of consumers for plans under President Obama’s new health-care law.
Maryland is among the handful of state exchanges that have been dogged by continuing difficulties. Hawaii’s exchange has also had serious problems and the quasi-governmental agency in charge publicly apologized in October for delays. In late November, the head of the agency, Coral Andrews, announced she would be resigning.....

So, they hired political people who knew benefits and insurance to oversee a website launch. This is like hiring a mechanic to do brain surgery. They should have hired Google or Amazon and had them do it.
“The biggest challenge they’re going to face is getting people enrolled pretty seamlessly early on and not having too many terrible glitches in enrollment,” Meyer said.
The state expects about 180,000 people to enroll in the exchange in 2013. The open enrollment period is 180 days, so that’s 1,000 people a day. By the way, the 180,000 people is a conservative estimate, Pearce said.
“We’re expecting to be very nimble,” she said.
I think everyone involved knew this was a disaster.
If they had hired competent people to,do this, they wouldn’t have had people in place to funnel funds to fellow Democrats.
How can we get competent when we have an incompetent Governor.
All O’Malley knows is tax and spend. He has taxed us to death.
I wish the Governor had the integrity to resign, and take the idiot Lt. Governor with him.
Just turn implementation of Obamacare over to ACORN and be done with it. That’s the goal anyway.
