Republican politicians have tried to pay homage on Facebook to the late Nelson Mandela since his death on Thursday, but many of their conservative supporters want to hear none of it.
Peruse through comment sections of the GOP's Facebook tributes to Mandela, and there's a good chance you'll find plenty of vitriol for the former South African president and for the politicians who praised him.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) wrote that Mandela "will live in history as an inspiration for defenders of liberty around the globe." One commenter took a different view of the anti-apartheid leader's legacy, urging "all you Mandela lovers head on over to South Africa and see what's going on now that 'Mandela's people' have control of the nation."
As Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) sees it, Mandela "showed South Africans and the entire world what the power of forgiveness truly means and can accomplish." It's unclear if some of Rubio's disappointed supporters will be similarly forgiving of the senator.
One woman found it "sad" that Rubio, a son of Cuban immigrants, showed such reverence given that the GOP senator's family "fled the very things that mandela (sic) stood for." After seeing the tribute, another woman said Rubio had lost her vote.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) wrote that the "world has lost an exceptional leader who made the world a better place." But some commenters cried foul at the "revisionist history" of Mandela. Another expressed relief that "Mass Murderer Mandela is finally dead."

.
I guess that his true colors are showing.
What can you expect from a politician?
Sigh.
Bingo.. Save your outrage for the enemy.. What else do you expect for a statesman to say in public about a man that has just passed? Rest up, the big fights are coming.. Geeez
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu:
“Nelson Mandela was one of the outstanding figures of our time, He was the father of his nation, a man of vision, a fighter for freedom who avoided violence. He was a humble man who provided a personal example for his nation during the long years he spent in prison.”
Netanyahu continued that Mandela “worked to heal the rifts in South African society and succeeded, through the power of his character, in preventing racial hatred. He will be remembered as the father of the new South Africa and a moral leader of the highest order.”
Even more disgusting is that FR folks will already be deciding Cruz is no longer worthy and start slamming him. Then come election time, we won't have anyone to vote for so folks will be writing in "Virgil Goode"
Spitting on a dead commie's grave serves no purpose, but many here will "honor" Mandela by posting story after story about him and then sabotage our side by turning up their noses at honorable leaders like Cruz. Sometimes I wonder if it's the Leftists low-info voters who are stupid or if it's those on our side who cannot find Christ on the roster so they won't accept anyone. Hell Even if Christ did show up there would be those who were pissed at him for supporting the adulteress and saving her from he due punishment.
Problem is, Cruz’s statement is most likely NOT his personal opinion. More likely it’s just pandering, plain and simple. That said, I hope you can accept my disagreement!
You insult dolphins...
“That said, I hope you can accept my disagreement!”
No, there must be only one point of view! I’ll be the gentleman in this case and surrender my Republican card later today.
“He made the world a better place”.
What about South Africa?
Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner! Or In Other Words, "Spot Frickin' On!"
The celebrity culture has brought us here.
“HERE’S MY TAKE” posts on facebook/twitter.
Elsewhere on the web (and migrating back to FB as headline/links on peoples’ newsfeeds) are articles from HuffingtonPost, Politico, and other liberal blogs slamming this conservative or that conservative for saying the “wrong” thing about Mandela (Dick Cheney, for one).
I could show dozens on photos of Mandela embracing, hugging, kissing, holding arms in triumph with the likes of Yasir Arafat (billionaire, known sponsor of terrorism), Fidel Castro (Communist, known dictator and violator of human rights), Momar Gaddafi (dictator, known sponsor of terrorism, a man “so bad” that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton had him whacked “WE came, WE saw, HE DIED!” was Hillary’s comment on Gaddafi’s murder).
Until Republicans learn to master social(ist) media, it will only serve to work against them.
Yeh heard about it many times. Obviously they all kill. Obviously they have a reason. Still think putting bombs in public places with children around is evil no matter what the reason.
I agree with that. Do you agree with me that shooting into a crowd of high school aged children is evil as well?
ofcourse.
Very few on the Right now dare say a bad word about Martin Luther King or Nelson Mandela, in spite of the fact that MLK was a Communist fellow traveler and Mandela was an outright Communist and leader of a terrorist organization.
You can always find somebody posting something stupid on Facebook.
That doesn't mean that Cruz or Rubio or Cantor have "lost their R-card."
I think it was Bobby Sands.
Or maybe Mumia.
