I don't know, but looking at things here, I wouldn't call it a "State of Emergency". BUT, apparently, this is the procedure which is necessary to go through in order to have funds from the Federal Government, in order to cover some of the extra costs.

However, the streets are icing up and with me driving to school to pick someone up, I was hoping no one would slide into me. I don’t have much trouble driving in this stuff, but you never know if someone else is going to smash into you, and it could be any of the four sides of the car. You really gotta be looking around you.

In southern California it’s about 62 degrees, bright sunny, occasional cotton-ball clouds, mild sleepy breeze and visibility is nearly limitless...The view of the mountains is just fantastic...

We’ve gotten about 2 inches of snow. I think it’s a little premature to declare a “state of emergency”.

It is also a first step toward seeking federal assistance should it be necessary.

These folks need to come to Minnesota and learn what winter is. We got 28 inches of snow in the last 48 hours, it's going to -15 tonight with a -35 wind chill, and we didn't even close the office.

Quick, someone wake up the Weather Cannel. That station that once talked about weather and is now a nature channel.

Tell the Weather Channel they can name this storm.

I grew up in that part of the country that gets ice storms. They are really nasty. I much prefer the ice box and snow we have here today.

I just got an email from my Daughter who teaches in Tulsa. Her husband phoned at 1:30 and told her to go home. She said she almost slid off the road twice.

Fortunately she made it home OK. along with their children.

I was born and reared in the Florida Panhandle as had all my ancestors going back to the 1700s. It can get cold here but not the brutal cold of the far North.

I spent 5 years in Tidewater, Virginia and the weather there was not that much different from Florida.

I spent 5 years in Western, Kansas. I liked the state but it did sometimes get really cold there. “There was nothing between there and the North Pole but a barb wire fence.”

The locals in Kansas told me that 4wd did no good on ice. I assumed they knew what they were talking about since they were native to the area but I later found out they were totally wrong. Four wheel drive definitely helps on ice.

There’s 6 inches to 2 feet of ice sprayed over my place from nearby peaks now (CO). Had winds over 100 mph again. The ice is much heavier than regular snow and harder for tires to push through. It should pile up much more within a month or so. Pulled a small trailer 65 mph over 30 miles on ice today.
