A 10,000-year-old house has been unearthed in Israel, offering what archaeologists say is a fascinating glimpse into human development. The structure, which dates back to the beginning of civilisation, was discovered close to Jerusalem in a region known as the Judean Shephelah. It is the oldest structure yet found in the region and dates back to the period in human history when communities first began to domesticate plants and animals.

'Here we have evidence of mans transition to permanent dwellings and that in fact is the beginning of the domestication of animals and plants; instead of searching out wild sheep, ancient man started raising them near the house.'
The remarkable finds, the oldest of which are described as hailing from the Pre-Pottery Neolithic Period, were made during an excavation prior to the widening of a highway.
