Gone (temporarily, I hope!) but DEFINITELY not forgotten! Quinn and Rose are off the air, but they WILL be back! Meanwhile, our friendly group of dedicated FReeper Q&R fans will meet in our usual spot - same time, same station - as we always have!
So grab your coffee - or whatever you choose to start your day - and drop in for some political chit-chat, or just to shoot the breeze!
Did they take any callers?
I imagine they have to screen out many, many angry Q&R fans.
I just listened for a few minutes after I parked my car. That was enough to make me really angry. They were still bickering when I turned of the radio. No callers. I couldn’t stand listening anymore anyway.
If I didn’t have high blood pressure before, I do now!
Yes, Bloomdaddy has to be just a stopgap. He was hired to do a local issues show in Wheeling. Very much out of his element in syndication. My guess is Clear Channel is preparing to flip ESPN sports to FM, as has been done in most other cities. Right now KDKA-FM is running away with that audience and they want to get back in the game.
That would make Rush a free agent and kick the door wide open for anybody who wants to start a new talk station.
Art Bell only lasted a couple of weeks on XM.
A sudden and mysterious demise.
what the heck, how can there be no Quinn and Rose? thanks for link to petition.
That doesn’t show as a secure site on my ‘puter. Will stay tuned.
Quinn & Rose have been the voices of reason & sanity that helped me through some tough times, including 9/11 — when there was otherwise NO reason, NO sanity.
Thank God for you, Jim & Rose, and may He bring you something even better.
// If CC did dump the BIG 3 talkers...then I really would invest in extra rolls of Reynolds Wrap. //
It’s good that you’re sticking with the name brand. The cheaper brands have holes that allow beams to pass through. I wouldn’t be caught dead with them.
Wow! Thanks for the post! Gives me hope. They were obviously doing extremely well in Rochester, NY. as well!
In a possibly related item....Clear Channel decides to un-cancel obnoxious lefty talker Randi Rhodes.
http://www.bradblog.com/?p=10375
“After previously announcing they would end their relationship with her at the end of 2013, the nation’s largest radio syndicator has decided to keep progressive radio talker Randi Rhodes on air into next year after all.
According to an email announcement with the subject line “Randi Rhodes Show Continues!”, as sent to radio station affiliates that carry Rhodes this morning, Premiere has apologized for their previous announcement earlier this week. That announcement, first reported on Wednesday by Politico, indicated that they would not be renewing Rhodes’ contract as of year’s end.
“In a happy turn of events, we are pleased to announce that Premiere Networks will continue to produce and distribute The Randi Rhodes Show,” reads the new email sent Friday morning by Premiere’s Peter Tripi, Senior Vice President of Affiliate Relations.”
Mr. Daschle digging in and getting right to work I see.
Wow. Thanks for info in 48 & 50. So, not-so-clear channel is kicking Rose & Quinn precipitously and reinstating an obnoxious lefty talker.
Interesting timing, daschle fingerprints.
This from June, thanks someone above for mentioning the hiring of a dim operative.
http://www.politico.com/story/2013/06/clear-channel-hires-nathan-daschle-92903.html
6/17/13 // [snips] ...The media company [not-so-clear channel] has hired Democratic operative Nathan Daschle as executive vice president for political strategy to build out its business with political advertisers and agencies that work with campaigns...
...Daschle told POLITICO that he will be focused on making sure campaigns know about Clear Channels capabilities and breadth across the country.
When I look at what Clear Channel has to offer, I see an untapped resource for campaigns, Daschle said. Clearly campaigns have understood the power of radio for a long time, but there are things that we can now with radio, with targeting, particularly with the layer of digital on top of it that we couldnt have done five years ago. [end snips] //
Go ahead and put Rhodes on Natey old boy. See how fast people tune out.
I’m so disgusted I could spit! They may not do well in the ratings, but they will have gotten conservatives off the air, and that’s the point. They can’t overcome conservative radio. They can’t stand an informed electorate!
Well, Quinn & Rose will be back - and their listeners will follow them wherever they go!
“...as soon as legal and other circumstances permit.”
Sounds like no compete clause and possible station ownership of show elements.
Dang.
I could see if there was another show that had the same content and conservative political leaning, but they are separate (and far ahead of) the rest of the shows that they would be in the time slot against? IOW, there IS no one close to them to compete against. Is it that it is known that they would blow other shows out of the water?
Sorry, I’m babbling. Not sure I understand how the no compete clause works.
A no compete claus uusually means that when you leave a station you can’t appear on any other station in that market for a certain amount of time, usually a year.
For example when we let someone go a few years ago they tried to go on another station here. We sued and they lost.
They ended up going to Alabama for a job.
Sadly that job didn’t work out. He went to Detroit where he also failed.
Last I heard he was selling insurance.
This was a name you would recognize but I don’t want to say who it was out of respect for him.
He is a great guy, talanted and creative. Hopefully he is doing fine now.
Interestingly enough another major talant from our stations was also let go but immediately went on another station in the market but south of the city. We didn’t challange him as far as I know. He had wanted me to go with him but I didn’t want to drive to that station. His health and the show failed in a few months. He retired and moved south.
Seems like the claus is applied selectively....
I think I know who you mean, but kudos for taking care to protect his identity.
Quinn apparently did not have an NDA with Steel City Media when he left them and moved to Clear Channel. That basically happened over a Christmas holiday. He’s on the high side of 70, so a year is an awful long time for him to sit on the sidelines at this point.
I found Jim Quinn’s Polar Express!!!!!!
Did you save the podcast? I always loved their Christmas show!
