Barack Obama being clear that his team messed up Obamacare made it hard for liberal PBS NewsHour pundit Mark Shields to try Democrat Happy Talk.
Instead, Shields joined the liberal gloomfest: “If this goes down, if the Obama -- if health care, the Affordable Care Act is deemed a failure, this is the end -- I really mean it -- of liberal government.” He even acknowledged Obama lied about Keeping Your Plan:
MARK SHIELDS: That is -- wasn't a true statement. And you're driven to one of two conclusions. Either the president was almost -- almost negligently uncurious in not asking about what the answer was, or he made the choice to trade his considerable reputation and record of integrity for short-term political gain. That's why they had to come and that's why there was such consternation in the ranks.
JUDY WOODRUFF: How do you explain it, David, what happened, with the president acknowledging yesterday that he wasn't on top of it?
DAVID BROOKS: Yes, I think it is politics. They knew that they -- getting this thing passed -- we were there -- it was hard. And so they were pulling out every political stop in the book. And a lot of those political stops have made it harder now. The first early one was, they were really late in issuing the regulations because they didn't want them to come out during the campaign so Romney could attack them.
As a result, the whole implementation got pushed back, and that's part of the reason the Web site is such a mess. And then they made this political calculation. Then they made the -- that they weren't going to tell you there will be losers here. And they made the political calculation....

Good to hear some encouraging news.
Mark shields worries of liberal demise aside, his thinking is rotted with liberalism and misconceptions. Conservatives are happy to help those that truly need it....through govt social aid, charity, churches, neighbors and family. There is a point , however, at which we refuse to go; that generally being robbed by taxes , watching money wasted by the boatload to care for those refusing to help themselves and a certain neighboring countries destitute.
Well, that alone makes Obamacare’s failure worthwhile.
Just said to get the libs all worked up. Nobody watches that show anyway but liberals.

Leftist orthodoxy: The ends justify the means. Lying in the pursuit of power is no vice.
A malignant narcissist surrounds himself with people who feed his grandiosity. In the case of Obama, they are at least as malignant as he is.
A malignant narcissist also believes that what he says is true, is true.
A narcissist’s greatest fear is that others around him, those who insulate him from reality, will discover what he really knows in secret — that he is empty and less than zero.
His response might be to lash out or it might be to withdraw. I think Obama withdrew some time ago to protect himself from discovery. I don’t think he is organized enough to lash out effectively. The malignant people around him may act as surrogates to do so, but they are now facing millions of normal people, not just ‘right-wing wackos.’
Another dynamic of narcissism is that normal people who surround a narcissist, upon discovering that he really is empty and less than zero, go to the opposite extremes of scorn and schadenfreude. The latest Dummy Funnies are hinting at that, although I hesitate to call the people at DU ‘normal.’
I don’t think Obama yet admits that he has been found out. I’m not sure he ever will. Treatment of narcissism, whether professional or informal, is universally ineffective. But the people who have wafted him along on the breezes of his narcissistic charm may soon be finding a position for him in another area where his charm can do little damage.
I’m no psychiatrist, but I know all this to be true, having failed to endure a narcissist supervisor, and having studied the topic intensely as a result.

How does he know that was the reason regulations weren’t issued earlier?
The real reason regulations weren’t issued earlier is that Obama, Sebelius, Baucus, and the rest of the administration, were confident they could invent regulations as they went along, relying on the traditional leftist political fantasy that “somehow” they could make things work.
It’s clear to me the federal clowns simply ASSUMED the website would be the one thing that would work flawlessly, because — after all! — other websites work nearly flawlessly when they’re built by Google, Apple, and Microsoft! So they outsourced the project to some incompetent Canadian company (whose EVP, I understand, is an old college friend of Michelle’s) at an unbelievably inflated cost, and the whole thing crashes.
Don’t count on leftists to learn any lessons from all this. All the lefties I know are grumbling bitterly about the fantastic increases in their health insurance costs, but instead of blaming Obamacare, or the administration that implemented it, or better yet, themselves (for having voted them back into power), they’re blaming insurance companies and doctors!
As Thomas Sowell has often pointed out, the fundamental error of the left is they believe reality — in this case, economic reality — is malleable and will conform to their wishes by means of diktat. The danger of the left is that when their policies fail, they never reflect that it might be their ideas that are at fault; it is, instead, always some other group — a convenient scapegoat — that caused their “well intentioned” policies to fail.
There is no end of liberal gov’t so long as there is free stuff handed out.

I’ve been rooting for his failure since January, 2009.
Shields has never been right about anything. I hope his luck has changed with this prognostication.

I was thinking the same thing. If it’s the end of liberalism, what’s going to take it’s place? Republicanism?
No wonder there’s panic in DC.
One can hope it is.
