Man Lost in Wilderness for 3 Months Saves Himself with Gut-Wrenching Decision

If you were stranded in the wilderness, your supplies gone, and you were about to starve to death, could you kill your best friend? That's the heartbreaking dilemma one man faced when he found himself trapped in the Canadian wilderness with no food. At the beginning of his planned three month trek, Marco Lavoie, who was hiking with his best pal, his dog, had his camp rations and canoe destroyed by a bear. But his faithful pooch saved his life by chasing the bear off. He would be "rewarded" three days later by having his own life taken -- by his beloved owner.

My Jack Russel Terriers chase down and catch rabbits in my back yard. They would do the same thing in the woods. They are dogs you know.

Most dogs will chase rabbits. But not all dogs can catch them. I have a lhasa that will chase anything. She goes nuts when she sees a squirrel. She’ll never believe she can’t one.

The guy was an experienced outdoorsman.
No experienced outdoorsman I know of would go into the wilderness for two months without being armed.

That’s funny! And to the point.

Not like my idiot dogs, who think it’s hilarious to spook a bear through camp! “Here’s a bear - we’ll go get another one!”

NO I would have to catch the dog and take the rabbit away from him. Dogs do not have have to be taught to catch a small varmint and eat it. Dogs do not have to be taught to hunt.
You call yourself Puppage. Have you ever owned a dog?

The guy was an experienced outdoorsman.
Plus, no experienced outdoorsman would leave his food supplies in easy reach of bears. And no experienced outdoorsman would be incapable of finding ANY food.

You call yourself Puppage. Have you ever owned a dog?Ok, so you've completely missed the point. The poster I replied to said that the hiker should have kept the dog because it would then go out & hunt a rabbit & bring it back for food. They are dogs, after all, they opined. And I replied, "so all dogs will do that without training?"
They may not need to be trained to hunt for themselves, but to bring it back so YOU can eat? Ummm, yes they do.
Try reading what I wrote before you blindly comment.
Now, if you'll excuse me....I gotta let my dogs out.

Boy, you would’ve really hated the RevWar soldiers. Including many who suffered heading up to and in Canada.
Terrible, but had to be done.

FGS, read the story everyone pontificating about “3 DAYS”....
“When he was found by rescuers after three months in the woods...”
